Ohio election info - spring 2018
1. VOTESMART
The first thing I'd like to mention is Votesmart.
It's a great tool to get info on candidates.
Just go to the main page,
www.votesmart.org and type the candidate's name into the blank.
Then click on each folder in the row of folders
to see the candidate's voting record, endorsements,
ratings given by conservative and leftist organizations, etc.
You'll be amazed at how MANY ratings are available!
2. GOVERNOR
I think Mary Taylor is probably our best bet.
Rand Paul and Ted Cruz both have endorsed her.
She chose Nathan Estruth for Lt. Gov.
He's a conservative's conservative.
He has served on the Board of Directors
at Alliance Defending Freedom.
Here are some links to info about Nathan Estruth:
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/person.asp?personId=113639426&privcapId=109137837 https://www.ourcampaigns.com/CandidateDetail.html?CandidateID=402699 https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2018/01/09/ohio-governors-race-mary-taylor-pick-former-p-g-executive-her-running-mate/1013140001/ https://relationshipscience.com/nathan-estruth-p3946217 https://relationshipscience.com/alliance-defending-freedom-o955758 http://www.dispatch.com/news/20180110/mary-taylor-says-gubernatorial-running-mate-estruth-checks-all-boxes We all know what a disappointment Kasich has turned out to be.
Mary Taylor is even pretending that Kasich didn't endorse her!
https://hotair.com/archives/2018/01/24/ouch-ohio-candidate-governor-pretending-kasich-didnt-endorse/ http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2018/01/24/ohio-no-one-wants-gov-john-kasichs-endorsement-including-his-former-running-mate-who-has/1060072001/ The DeWine campaign has been running TV ads
accusing the Taylor campaign of making false claims about DeWine.
The Taylor ad is actually from a pro-Taylor super PAC,
not the Taylor campaign itself.
DeWine's source of "fact finding" is from PolitiFact,
which has an extensive record of left wing bias.
More info here --->
https://www.politifactbias.com/ Politifact's discussion of the Taylor ad is here:
http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2018/mar/23/onward-ohio/ohio-tv-ad-misleads-attack-mike-dewine-about-immig/ It acknowledges that the pro-Taylor ad's claims are true,
but claims that they are exaggerated and out of context.
This article reveals who is supporting the Taylor campaign:
www.dispatch.com/news/20180416/mary-taylor-super-pac Here in Greene County, where I'm writing this,
in 1980, Mike DeWine was County Prosecutor.
Just before the 1980 election (he was running for State Senate)
he obtained and had executed numerous warrants
to arrest drug dealers, to appear tough on drugs.
26 of the 27 prosecutions later failed due to insufficient evidence.
Mike DeWine chose Jon Husted to be his running mate.
Husted, now Ohio Secretary of State, was running for Governor,
but dropped out to become De Wine's running mate.
Husted is pretty conservative, but not as rock-solid as Nathan Estruth.
3. U.S. SENATE
Looks like Jim Renacci (rhymes with Stacy) is going to win the nomination.
The Donald has endorsed him.
His ratings by conservative organizations (check Votesmart!)
are rather mediocre, based on
his voting record as a U.S. Representative.
Also, when he was running for Governor
(before he switched to running for the Senate)
he chose a running mate who was about as leftist as anyone could find:
Cincinnati councilwoman Amy Murray,
who voted FOR a resolution honoring Planned Parenthood
and a resolution honoring a doctor who
encourages children to pursue gender transition surgery.
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/contributors/2017/12/18/murray-selection-confirms-what-we-knew-renacci-hes-no-conservative/961949001/ Mike Gibbons would probably be a much more reliable conservative.
Also challenging Renacci is Melissa Ackison.
I attended a candidate forum recently,
where both of these challengers of spoke.
I would be happy for either one of them to win the primary.
Mike Gibbons is well educated, and is reliably conservative.
Melissa Ackison is GREAT at "business street smarts"
and has VERY compelling stories to tell about
personal experience with Obamacare
and in business.
(She has no college degrees,
but is a much sought after business consultant.
She's gotten several corrupt CEOs fired.)
She debates like a piranha.
(She reminds me of Carly Fiorina debating.)
I would LOVE to see her tear up Sherrod (rhymes with Jared) Brown!
But it looks like we're going to end up with Renacci, anyway.
Ackison is probably the best candidate,
but has little funding, and is likely to finish in a distant third place.
Gibbons has a better chance to win the primary,
but is still a long shot.
Let's make Renacci's win as narrow as possible
to keep him from feeling complacent.
Let's let him know that we're watching him,
so he'd better KEEP his promise to support Trump in the Senate!
We need to keep reminding him a of
how much he is indebted to The Donald.
4. ISSUE ONE
There is an issue on the Ohio ballot that would
replace the method by which Congressional districts are approved.
Currently, a simple majority in the Ohio legislature is enough.
Issue One would replace that with a committee
that would draw up the lines, ostensibly
to make the districts more compact
and follow county lines as much as possible.
The boundaries would have to be approved by
super majorities in the legislature.
Effectively, it would give the minority party
the power to filibuster the district boundaries.
A similar proposal was introduced in the Ohio legislature about fifteen years ago.
The Democrats (who held a majority then) rejected it.
Currently, Ohio has 12 Rs and 4 Ds in the U.S. House.
So passing Issue One would make it more difficult to hold that margin.
5. U.S. REPRESENTATIVE, DISTRICT 10
Mike Turner (R) has occupied that seat for about 15 years.
He's kept the pork flowing for the whole time,
so he'll probably win easily.
Challenger John Mitchel is a rock solid patriot
and as much of a straight arrow as you'll ever find.
6. BEST QUESTION FOR VETTING
ALL CANDIDATES NATIONWIDE:
What is your assessment of the Mueller investigation?
The correct answer is something along the lines of,
"The Mueller team is a criminal organization that is
committing an act of war against the Constitution and the American people.
Mueller himself helped clear the way for
the Clintons to sell one fifth of America's uranium supply to Russia
by squelching the FBI investigation of the $100 million
that the Russians gave to the Clintons.
The entire team is filled with partisan political hacks
who should already be in prison
for numerous cases of prosecutorial abuse in previous cases."
(Look up "Licensed to Lie" by Sidney Powell.)
Any candidate that indicates in any way
that Robert Mueller or anyone on his team
has even the slightest bit of legitimacy
is unacceptable.
"Where there's smoke, there's a fake news smokescreen."
