Vatican: Pope did not say there is no hell
« on: March 30, 2018, 02:32:31 pm »
The Vatican has denied that Pope Francis told a well-known Italian journalist that "there is no hell".

The quote came in an article in Italy's La Repubblica daily. But the Vatican said "no quotations" in the article "should be considered as a faithful transcription" of the Pope's words.

The Vatican said the article was based on a private meeting the Pope had with the daily's founder, Eugenio Scalfari.

Catholic Church doctrine affirms the existence of hell and its eternity.

The souls of sinners descend into hell, where they suffer "eternal fire", the Catholic catechism states.

However, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the most senior Catholic in England and Wales, said "there's nowhere in Catholic teaching that actually says any one person is in hell".

He told the BBC that the Pope was apparently exploring "the imagery of hell - fire and brimstone and all of that".

"That's never been part of Catholic teaching, it's been part of Catholic iconography, part of Christian iconography," he said.

LOL, I can't wait to hear:  "However, Staffer Kellyanne Conoway, the most senior advisor to the president, said "there's nowhere in Trump contractural promises that actually says any a wall would actually be built, that was just part of Trump Campaign iconography".

What is the purpose of having a Pope? Isn't it to make Catholic doctrine and teachings CLEAR and UNAMBIGUOUS?

Not so with Francis.

This pope  always preferred chaos and confusion to clarity. Often with a simple statement Francis could have cleared up questions and misinformation. However, he does not do that.

Francis could issue a short, simple statement affirming his belief in the traditional Christian doctrine of hell.

Instead, he let's other Catholics GUESS what he meant.

I for one am not holding my breath.

He told the BBC that the Pope was apparently exploring "the imagery of hell - fire and brimstone and all of that".
"That's never been part of Catholic teaching, it's been part of Catholic iconography, part of Christian iconography," he said.

From yesterday.
There are many definitions of what hell is in various religions. Maybe he was saying that there is no hell as it is commonly defined by the Christian religion.

I am both impressed and flattered that the Vatican reads my posts.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.
