Supreme Court denies GOP request to block new Pa. congressional map
By Ben Kamisar - 03/19/18 03:27 PM EDT

The Supreme Court on Monday denied an emergency appeal by Pennsylvania Republicans to block the implementation of new congressional maps, a blow to the GOP that makes it far more likely that the new maps will be in place for the 2018 elections.

The state's congressional district maps have been at the center of controversy for months, an issue that took center stage when the state Supreme Court ruled the old maps an unconstitutional gerrymander and ordered them redrawn earlier this year.

The new maps, drawn by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, are advantageous to Democrats and appear to give the party a better chance to win in a handful of congressional seats.

Good...

“Nonetheless, we respect the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court and are prepared to move on to other issues of importance to the people of Pennsylvania.”
WRONG.

If the courts have no authority to establish legislative boundaries, their opinions should not be respected. The proper response should have been:

As the Court has no authority under the constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to establish legislative lines, the districts will remain as dictated by duly enacted law.

Yes. They should vacate the SCOPA ruling and reel them in.
