Video game execs to visit WH, argue product is not to blame for gun violence
By Harper Neidig - 03/05/18 05:00 PM EST

Video game executives will argue during a White House visit Thursday that their products are not to blame for school shootings or gun violence in the U.S., a trade association representing the industry told The Hill.

The Entertainment Software Association on Monday told The Hill it plans to make the case that violent video games should not be singled out for mass shootings and gun violence in the country when they meet with the Trump administration.

"Like all Americans, we are deeply concerned about the level of gun violence in the United States," said ESA spokesman Dan Hewitt in a statement. "Video games are plainly not the issue: entertainment is distributed and consumed globally, but the US has an exponentially higher level of gun violence than any other nation."

That's odd. These first person shoot 'em up games are what the Military uses to train people to kill. It also effect the brain in ways we don't fully understand....

Playing action video games may be bad for your brain, study finds

With moderation  they are ok for most people.    Some people are screwed up and anything could tip them.

Trump Discusses Violence with Video Game Execs, Critics

President Donald Trump raised concerns about the graphic depiction of violence in video games at a White House meeting Thursday with members of the industry and some of their most vocal critics.

Searching for ways to respond to last month's Florida school shooting, Trump has questioned the impact of video games, although decades of research have failed to find a link between gun violence and graphic depictions of violence in games. Meeting attendees said he sought to hear from all sides.

Others went including Brent Bozell:

Also attending were a representative of the Parents Television Council, a conservative watchdog group, as well as conservative activist Brent Bozell — a longtime critic of video game violence who founded the council — and the author of a book linking mass killings to violent video games.

And it also IMHO hinges in how much parents are involved in their kids lives.

Funny thing was when I was in Jr. High and High School it wasn't violent video games that these same people worried about causing kids to move towards violence...it was those of us that were heavily involved in fantasy RPG's like Dungeons' and Dragons.

Gosh. That is a surprise to learn you fondled 8 side dice.

BTW if I recall the D&D panic was mostly isolated to the Jesus Freaks of the day. They argued it was some sort of Satanist plot. I don't recall the larger population giving a shit. Also the military wasn't using D&D to train people to kill like first person shooting games.

Nope they just used MILES gear, starting in the late 70s.  It was the forerunner of laser tag, combining role playing and first person shooter.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

We're not using video game now to train people to kill.  That's just moronic.
