"Certain industries cannot compete with foreign producers because of lower foreign wages and cost of living abroad...we pledge [tariffs] so American labor may command the home market, maintain its standard of living and count upon steady employment." --Herbert Hoover, 1930

Yeah - that was fantastic.  It was really great how those economic policies made a bad situation worse, got FDR elected four times, opened the door to entitlements, and set the stage for the most destructive war in human history.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

Maybe it's Bruce Bauxitener.

LOL, I hadn't seen him around lately.
Maybe, that is the reason for the shortage.

Congress can easily take back tariff powers from the President. Just saying.

Easily?

Would need to override, to undo the existing legislation.

Speaking of easy, those trade wars started by tariffs are a cinch.  Trump said so.

"When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win. Example, when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don't trade anymore-we win big. It's easy!"

If the GOP turns on Trump, then I don't think overriding the veto would be difficult.

We have given the Presidency far too much power already.

Whatever extra money we thought we were gonna get from the tax cuts will be eaten up by higher gas taxes and higher prices for anything that has steel or aluminum in them.  You don't think the manufacturer is going to eat the increased cost on their end do you?
I'm not reaching...I'm just being realistic.

Which is why, due to this news, the stock market is still tanking this Friday.
