Epistaxis, or a nosebleed, is generally caused by a broken blood vessel in the nose or sinuses. Bleeding from the nose, especially when blowing it, is very common and usually not a cause for concern.

An estimated 60 percent of people experience nosebleeds but only around 6 percent of cases require medical attention.

My nose bleeds if my blood pressure is high.  Otherwise, I get dried blood on the tissue during the winter when the heat is on and my nose dries out.  Vaseline helps moisturize and lubricate the tissues inside the nose.

Fish oil supplements increase the tendency for nose bleeds in a few persons.

Hmmm.  I take fish oil supplements -- has done wonders for lowering my triglycerides -- but I think I've been getting nosebleeds before I started taking the supplements.

Thanks!
