Black Lives Matter Charleston Leader Mourned After Fatal Shooting in New Orleans

Friends and family are mourning the loss of a prominent Black Lives Matter leader from Charleston who was shot in New Orleans.

Muhiyyidin d'Baha, 32, was shot in the leg while riding his bike at around 1 a.m. in Louisiana and later died, the activist's niece, Camille Weaver, told WCSC-TV.

On a GoFundMe page set up by Weaver, d'Baha's niece said her uncle was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died due to excessive blood loss.

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the shooting but has yet to establish any motive or identify any suspects.

D'Baha, who went by the nickname "Moya" and whose legal name was Muhiyyidin Moye, had made headlines in February 2017 after he was caught on a live broadcast trying to tear a Confederate flag away from a South Carolina Secessionist Party demonstrator after leaping over police tape during a rally in downtown Charleston.

More details:  Shot in 1900 block of Bienville.  Not too far from the Quarter.

I was just there last week for work.  When the locals recommended a place to eat, drink, or listen to music, the advice was the same for every place:

Park as close as you can and don't walk around the neighborhood.

The shooting probably had nothing to do with his being a BLM leader.  In NOLA you can get shot for all kinds of things.  There's a good chance they'll never find the perp.  Looked a little closer at the location.  That's not a neighborhood I'd want to be in late at night.  (I have a son who lives in NOLA, so I have a some sense of the place.)

Well it was bound to happen. In the 60s all the Black militant groups were killing each other too, even people in their own groups. Too much White people's White guilt money at stake. They all are after their share.

There are still accusations that Jesse Jackson, Malcom X, were involved in killings of Black leaders back then, including killing off leaders to get a promotion. If they killed the leader of a so called 'movement', then they could take his place. Blacks kill Blacks all the time and think nothing of it.

It's all about the money. They may be saying, "Black Power", but what they want is "Green Power".

Now in this instance it appears  he got lucky and the bullet only hit him his femoral artery.  So he had that going for him.
