Trump Says He'll '100%' Release Nunes' FBI Memo
« on: January 31, 2018, 12:44:26 pm »
WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Donald Trump was overheard telling a lawmaker on Tuesday he "100%" plans to release a controversial memo alleging the FBI abused its surveillance tools.

The President was responding to Rep. Jeff Duncan's entreaty to release the document as he departed a packed House chamber following his first State of the Union address.

"Mr. President, let's release the memo," Duncan, a South Carolina Republican, was heard asking Trump on a live camera feed from the House floor.

"Don't worry, 100%" Trump responded. "Can you imagine?"

The House Intelligence Committee voted along party lines Monday to publicly release a classified memo written by Republicans alleging FBI abuses in the agency's surveillance.

The memo claims the FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act over its use of the opposition research dossier on Trump and Russia as part of the case to obtain a FISA warrant for a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser.

Video of exchange at source.

Hours before Trump made his offhand remark on Tuesday, his press secretary Sarah Sanders issued a statement saying there are "no current plans" to release the memo.

"The President has not seen or been briefed on the memo or reviewed its contents," she said.

Other stories have the memo being reviewed and potentially released at the end of the week.

The review process is being jointly coordinated by the National Security Council and the White House Counsel's office. A recommendation to Trump on whether to release the memo is scheduled to be made late Wednesday.

If the memo or any contents relating to it are to be made public, that release, the sources said, would not come before Thursday.

The memo could come out then, but another option gaining some favor within the administration is not to release the memo, but to  declassify the underlying evidence related to its findings. That evidence would be redacted, the sources said, to protect sensitive information on sources and methods. This approach, the sources said, might diminish some of the partisan nature of the memo's creation.

It seems as if the memo, if released, may not be in its original form.

Everything is

Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775
