Well his mouth must be tired because he is almost at $5 Billion in govt' handouts and around $5.5 Billion in govt' Spacex contracts along with $20 million from Texas to build the facility there.

Do not forget the billions he will get from the South Australians for his energy storage scam.

The man is a modern BT Barnum.

He is like Barnum. I can't help but be entertained and laugh my ass off every time I see the single idiot in my area that bought one of the ugliest cars ever built....

They were building those in California before the Australian batteries.

Tesla Motors Inc. and Southern California Edison on Monday unveiled one of the world’s largest energy storage facilities, part of a massive deployment of grid-connected batteries that regulators hail as key to helping keep Southern California’s lights on and reducing fossil-fuel reliance.

To ask the question is to answer it.  Cal? :silly: :rolling:

Energy Storage is a massive economic incentive for any large power grid.  Being able to take power generated at low demand times and move it to peak demand times is a way to make money.  Batteries is one of the versions for this.  Hydro Pumped storage has been built for decades.  Thermal storage has been used for AC.

They are built all over the world.

Heck even the Tesla Power Grid Batteries have been installed in Texas.

All wise-guy remarks aside, storage is vital if any unstable generation source (like wind, solar or tidal etc.) is to be used for an alternative to nuke or fossil fuel.  I don't think it's a sham at all, but getting there may be loaded with shams, as any government-sponsored venture is bound to be.

It is not just unstable or non-dispatchable generation.  Just moving the daily peak load down means less total generation.  Building simple gas turbines isn't cheap when they only run for a few hours.

I don't give a shit. All I know is that Musk is a fraud. Whenever govt' subsidies are removed from one of his brands the company tanks (See Tesla sales in China after rebates ended). Space X is another company that wouldn't exist if the govt' wasn't shoveling money into it.

Musk isn't the only one building these.  ABB, Fluence (Siemens and AES), EOS (with NRG), S&C, amoung others have been selling them for a while.  Most are not as media savvy as Musk.
