Well his mouth must be tired because he is almost at $5 Billion in govt' handouts and around $5.5 Billion in govt' Spacex contracts along with $20 million from Texas to build the facility there.

All wise-guy remarks aside, storage is vital if any unstable generation source (like wind, solar or tidal etc.) is to be used for an alternative to nuke or fossil fuel.  I don't think it's a sham at all, but getting there may be loaded with shams, as any government-sponsored venture is bound to be.

It is not just unstable or non-dispatchable generation.  Just moving the daily peak load down means less total generation.  Building simple gas turbines isn't cheap when they only run for a few hours.

I don't give a shit. All I know is that Musk is a fraud. Whenever govt' subsidies are removed from one of his brands the company tanks (See Tesla sales in China after rebates ended). Space X is another company that wouldn't exist if the govt' wasn't shoveling money into it.

Musk isn't the only one building these.  ABB, Fluence (Siemens and AES), EOS (with NRG), S&C, amoung others have been selling them for a while.  Most are not as media savvy as Musk.
