Ex-NBA star Dennis Rodman charged after DUI arrest in Newport Beach

By Hannah Fry   |    Jan 26, 2018  |  11:20 AM

Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman was charged Thursday with two misdemeanors stemming from allegations of drunk driving in Newport Beach.

Rodman, 56, faces one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08%, according to Orange County Superior Court records. He is expected to be arraigned Feb. 28.

According to police, Rodman was pulled over for a traffic violation at about 11 p.m. Jan. 13 in the 4500 block of West Coast Highway in Newport Beach.

Police said he failed a breath test at the scene and was arrested. Prosecutors allege his blood-alcohol level was 0.21%, nearly three times the legal limit.

His attorney, Paul Meyer, said Friday that Rodman entered a residential treatment program immediately after his arrest and committed to long-term outpatient treatment.

"He recognizes the problem and is working hard," Meyer said. "No one questions his big heart and care for others. In recent months he completed his community service obligation by donating many hours in long-term care facilities and making a real difference in people's lives. I think the responsible way that Dennis is facing his current situation will be an inspiration to many others."

In February 2017, Rodman was sentenced to three years' informal probation after pleading guilty to three misdemeanor charges in connection with a wrong-way crash on the 5 Freeway in Santa Ana.

He is the guy that was negotiating for Obama, with NK.

Rodman has made Newport Beach and Huntington Beach, his home for years. He has quite the reputation and record for his alcohol problem.

He owned a bar on PCH on Mariner's Mile for years, so he could hang out there. During that era, he was cited for going too fast on the bay, making wakes that bothered the wealthy Bayfront homeowners.

Although operating a vehicle is dangerous to others, he has never had other violations involving violence etc.

I doubt he is too poor. Alcohol impairs judgment, so it is too drunk.

He did the very standard, classic, cliche', thing rich people do.

Whenever a rich person in America gets charged with a crime, any crime, the very first thing they always do is to run to rehab. It is as if they are thinking, 'Hey man, I'm in rehab. So...everything is OK now, right?'

They do their luxurious version of rehab (which most of us would consider a luxury vacation) not to 'get better'. They do it as a kind of penance as if rehab will absolve them from all their sins.

I have no example that I can cite of a celebrity who went to rehab and did not relapse immediately after getting out (and many time while they were actually in the program).
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.
