Verne Troyer, dwarf character actor best known as Mini-Me, dies at 49

Troyer, who was born with achondroplasia (a form of dwarfism), was born to a family with close ties to the Amish; perhaps somewhat ironically, he soon developed dreams of film stardom and, in his late 20s, achieved it as a character actor. His best-known role was as Mini-Me, the miniature clone of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers film series. He milked his C-list celebrity through frequent appearances on reality TV in the years that followed.

Troyer suffered from alcoholism and depression in his last days and was hospitalized a few weeks before his death after a suicide attempt.

RIP Mini Me
Bah. Beat me by a second.

Yeah, it seems like quite a sad case. You have to give the guy credit, though: for all his, er, shortcomings, he was able to live quite a life for himself. He parlayed his quirks into a way to fulfill his dreams and lived to the fullest. He seemed to enjoy it for the most part, at least he did. Who knows what was going through his head at the time?

Tattoo from Fantasy Island also suicided. I wonder if there is something with their health and depression

Depression isn't a joke. Prayers for his family and all who deal with it.

There is definitely. Most of the ones who have that kind of dwarfism have serious pain issues, because their organs continue to grow and try to fit into a body that's too small, causing constant pain. That was part of the reason Herve Villechaize (Tattoo) killed himself. A lot of them die in their 20s and 30s.

The other kind of dwarfism (where everything grows in proportion, just not as much) doesn't cause those kinds of problems. That's why Jerry Maren, who's somewhere around 98 now, is still alive. (Sometimes I think he has to say to himself, "how the heck am I still here?")

Nabi Tajima, last known living person born in 1900 or earlier, dies at 117

Tajima, a native of Japan, was born in 1900. Unlike others of her era who claimed that being single from middle age onward was the secret to their longevity, she was married to her husband Tominishi, who likewise lived to see his 90s, until his death in the early 1990s, and bore nine of his children. At the time of her death, 160 descendants spanning five generations had been born from her lineage.

When Jamaican Victoria Brown, the last known subject of Queen Victoria, died in September 2017, Tajima earned the title of World's Oldest Person. She attributed her longevity to getting enough sleep and eating food that tasted good. With her death on April 21, another Japanese woman, Chiyo Miyako, now holds the title.

Bob Dorough, creator of Schoolhouse Rock!, dies at 94

Dorough began his career as a jazz musician, having modest success in that field in the 1950s. In 1972, an advertising executive commissioned Dorough to prouce a series of educational songs. Set to animation, Dorough produced "Multiplication Rock," which set the multiplication tables to a series of widely different songs. Dorough sang on many of the tracks, joined by a number of other accomplished names from the field of jazz, including Blossom Dearie, George Newall, Grady Tate and eventually Jack Sheldon and musical newcomer Lynn Ahrens.

"Multiplication Rock" was such a rousing success that it would be followed a year later with "Grammar Rock," which in turn was followed by "America Rock," "Science Rock" and the now-mostly forgotten "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips." The program became a fixture of Saturday morning television for the rest of the 20th century.

Don Bustany, radio producer who created the American Top 40 countdown, dies at 89

"And now, on with the countdown..."

Bustany had been a friend of disc jockey Casey Kasem since childhood, with both growing up in a Lebanese neighborhood in Detroit. In 1970, the two teamed up to create a syndicated radio show that would take Billboard magazine's list of the most popular songs of the week, order them from 40 to 1, and assemble them into a three-hour program with a few insightful or humorous stories along the way. The end result was American Top 40, with Kasem as host and Bustany as head writer. The format would go on to be widely adapted (official versions for other formats included American Country Countdown and Dick Bartley's American Gold for oldies) and ripped off over the next decades; AT40 remains on air, with Ryan Seacrest as host.

In addition to his radio work, Bustany also did camera work for MTM Productions. (Particularly in his later years, he did take to activism and hosted a show on the far-left Pacifica network and was a longtime member of the "American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee," a group long suspected of having Islamic terrorist sympathies.)

Word for word.......

I second that.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

Poor Alfie and his parents were failed all up and down that line.  Doctors, Hospital Administrators, the government bureaucracy and, finally, the Judge that would not let anybody else treat the boy (at no cost to them) all deserve a trip to Rochester.  Then there's the picture I saw of the wall of cops who were stationed to block anybody from sneaking the baby to safety.
