Strange, but very common. Liberals consider themselves to be intellectually superior to any Conservative, especially a religious Conservative. Therefore, it is natural for a Liberal to believe that they know more about religion than the dirty, poor, masses who need to be guided and directed as to what the message of Jesus 'really' was.
The number one item on any Liberal's wish list is to have the ability to control and dictate religious law. They would love to be able to usurp God, to become God. They are following in the footsteps of their idol. They want to finish what their Lord attempted to do and failed.
