Trump delivers purple heart to wounded soldier at Walter ReedThe Hill, Dec 21, 2017, Josh Delk
President Trump bestowed the Purple Heart to a wounded Army lieutenant on Thursday during his visit with injured U.S. soldiers at Walter Reed National Medical Center.
The president gave the medal to First Lieutenant Victor Prato, 25, who was wounded in November during a deployment to Afghanistan where an IED blast caused his vehicle to roll over, inflicting multiple soft tissue injuries.
Trump visited service members of all military branches at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, D.C., keeping with a longstanding tradition of presidents visiting wounded soldiers during the holidays. Trump called them, "some of the bravest people anywhere in the world."
“We'll be over there for a while, but we're just going to wish them a Merry Christmas,†Trump told reporters on his way to the hospital from the White House.
