After ex-comedian Rosie O’Donnell’s meltdown on Twitter before the Senate’s big tax vote Tuesday night, President Donald Trump can reasonably direct federal authorities to lock her up — and even to “take some money out of her fat-ass pockets,” which he once infamously cited as a personal goal.

Federal law addresses O’Donnell’s actions.

18 U.S. Code § 201 criminalizes the attempted bribery of federal officials by whoever “directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official … with intent to influence any official act.”

The penalty? For Rosie, she could spend up to 15 years in jail, suffer a lifetime ban from elective office and pay up to a cool $12 million:

The statute calls for a fine of “not more than three times the monetary equivalent of the thing of value, whichever is greater, or imprisoned for not more than fifteen years, or both, and may be
disqualified from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”

Rosie will now claim that she was just kidding, natch.   She will remind folks that she is, after all, a comedian.....although, as a viewer, I have never found anything even remotely funny about her.  Sad, disgusting and infuriating... always....

I have been looking and haven't been able to find an instance where an attempted bribe giver has been convicted when no bribe was actually given. In this case there isn't even a specific target of a bribe in mind.

It just makes her look smarter than those screaming for her arrest.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with that.  She blabbed about it on Twitter, but didn't to one thing to advance the plan.  She couldn't even get a conspiracy charge against her for shooting her mouth off on Twitter.

She should be investigated, either we are a nation of laws or not.

You're not going to find a prosecutor who would try the case, nor a Jury who would convict.  I don't think that says anything about whether we live in a nation of laws, it speaks to the weakness of the case.  She did nothing beyond spewing on Twitter to advance her conspiracy to bribe.  As @edpc stated, she didn't even try to contact somebody to make the offer.

My favorite drink is Evan Williams (Green, I don't care for the Black label).



With the sheer quantity that I drink, I need something affordable. And EW is very affordable. $20 for a big bottle. And for me, with my body type, oddly enough it doesn't give me much of a hangover. Partially because I am so used to it, and partially because when I'm drinking, I always have a bottle of water at hand. Also, I eat and take vitamin supplements all the time when I'm boozing it up, which helps a lot.

It would not be unusual for me to buy two handles of EW to get through the weekend, if nothing is going on and my schedule is clear.

I don't drink all the time. But when I do, I drink liters of the stuff, enough to kill a normal person. And then I'm cool for a couple of weeks, and then I do it all over again. It's kind of a routine. It is very calming and relaxing for me. Some people smoke pot. Some people take all kinds of drugs, tranquilizers, and pain killers. Whiskey is all I need, and the best part is that it is perfectly legal. I don't have to worry about getting mugged, robbed, beat up, killed, or arrested, from drinking Whiskey. Well, most of the time, that is.

Currently I'm in dry phase. So, I won't have another drink until New Year Day.

But you guys should try that Evan Williams Green. According to my palate, it is good bourbon whiskey, straight up, or with a little club soda and ice. However you take it.
