IRS to get massive new workload when GOP tax bill becomes law
by Joseph Lawler | Dec 19, 2017, 6:00 AM

If and when President Trump signs the GOP tax bill, he will also be setting up the IRS for a major test.

Almost immediately, the tax-collecting agency would be tasked with changing the withholding tables for taxes in preparation for the tax rates changing on Jan. 1. Then, it would have the space of just a year to organize on the fly for raising trillions of dollars using a largely revamped code.

It would have to do so even though it is already struggling to carry out its existing job and having gone through years of losing funding and personnel.

To add to all of that, Republicans are still weighing the possibility of a major reform of the IRS next year, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, said Monday.

Maybe it will keep them out of trouble and focused on their job.

Wait a minute.  Shouldn't the load be greatly lessened following Obamacare's demise?

Didn't Obama hire a bunch of agents to enforce Obamacare?

Maybe they don't have time to harass innocent citizens.

I'm looking forward to the day when they have no jobs at all and taxes are filed on a postcard.

Unless those 16K, or whatever the final number was, are still harassing TEA Party folk, they need something to do besides fap at the office.  “You’re Fired!”, would be music to my ears.

I'm looking forward to the day when every single IRS employee is either retired or working for some other agency of government.  The Border Patrol is looking for a few good men I hear tell.

A close friend of mine is a gubmint contractor for the IRS.  A South Africa immigrant, she just recently got her citizenship.  While a non-citizen, she made $150K a year under Bush.  That salary jumped to 350K a year not long after the Zero came into office.  She claims that we would be shocked if we knew how much these cretins bring home thanks to Obama.

Changing withholding tables should be pretty trivial for the IRS, and for large companies that use standardized software providers for payroll. It's small businesses that will be scrambling to roll out the new rates...

Almost all of our clients are small businesses.  I've checked with them all and they report that their software vendors have assured them they'll have the tables in time.
