Hundreds have been evacuated from Oxford Circus tube station amid reports of gunshots.

Armed police have arrived on scene after a gunman was reported to have fired shots.

Witnesses at the scene described seeing a lorry on the pavement surrounded by police as if it had 'ploughed' into pedestrians.

Next to the lorry, the pavement was said to be covered in blood.

Police are responding to reports of an incident at London's Oxford Circus Tube station, amid reports people have been seen running away from the scene.

Scene appears calm at this time. A reporter said reports of gunfire "very troubling" then seemed realize the implication that citizens are unarmed and only the criminals, terrorists  and some police have weapons in the UK.

Very alarming, between these terrorist attacks and mass shootings, I'm sure the chances of actually encountering such an event is minute but still troubling.

Daily Mail is saying only one woman was injured. So, perhaps no fatalities here.

We should be guarded per optimism but this must be seen as good news per Daily Mail:

    There were stampedes of shoppers away from the busy street around 5pm
    But police have now said they have no evidence of shots having been fired
    A woman was injured leaving Oxford Circus but there were no other casualties
