'Growth of the swamp': Massive GOP letdowns
help Dems score big
'Republicans are demoralized and dispirited at complete failure to keep promises'
Published: 9 hours ago

Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says Democrats there turned out in droves to register their animosity toward President Trump, and Republicans didn’t see the same passion from their voters because of failure after failure from the GOP in Washington.

On Tuesday, Democrat Ralph Northam coasted to an easy nine-point win over Republican Ed Gillespie. Democrats also won the races for lieutenant governor and attorney general, and they are on the brink of a stunning capture of the majority in the House of Delegates, where Republicans had enjoyed a 66-34 margin.

Things are bad and I don't think Trump or any DC Republican realizes it yet.  They are all clueless.  Or as I said before, they are expecting voters to vote for them anyway as they have in the past because of the lesser of two evils meme.  I believe voters are realizing there is no lesser of two evils and that neither party represents their best interests. The voters may not outright vote Democrat.  They may just merely stay home on Election Day.

As I said elsewhere:  I think the Republicans are so unused to doing what they were elected to do that they don't have a clue as to how to go about it.  Take that "tax cut" bill.  Amateurish, poorly written and even more poorly thought out and where the only goal seems to have been to get a bill passed.  They're so used to their only job being that of passively resisting and keeping their heads down they don't seem to have any idea how to do real legislating.  Nor, do they even seem to understand the necessity or appropriateness of doing that.

Maybe so.  But I would think by now, they would have shifted gears and at least started to act like they are in charge now.  It's been a year since Trump won the presidency -- longer since Republicans took control of both houses of congress.  With Republican control of Congress and the presidency, they should be able to do something.  I was willing to give them all time, but my patience is wearing thin.  I now think they really have no intention of keeping their promises-- that they lied to us.  And if other voters also feel they have been conned, it doesn't bode well for Republican domination in DC.

Might as well vote for Democrats given the fruits of the Republican do-nothing-but-help-the Democrat-Agenda.

The GOP is headfirst on the shelf to being permanent company with the Whigs, and deservedly so.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

That is 100% correct. My problem with Ken's analysis is that I have never seen where state elections ever are effected by who is President. What the hell does it matter who wins a state house seat to the future of Trump? What I do see as a problem is this....

It seems we are in a cycle where the response to the radical leftist hate filled years of obama and his followers is the election of a caustic, bullying, populist Pres. Trump. The Pubs are going to be left in the dust because their failure to implement real change will lead to the return to power of an even more radical leftist Rat party. The leftists will force their agenda on the majority of Americans who don't want it and then they will respond with an even more caustic, strong willed, populist. The Pubs will be pushed aside. They have shown themselves to be worthless in this fight for liberty.

I agree. The Pubbies will welcome the return of the ruling leftists and be satisfied with the crumbs they are allowed. Worthless.

And what's infuriating is this is a battle over liberty and we are the ones who will pay the price.

The Pub party was created because of a lack of liberty , slavery. The Pub party backed MLK and the Civil Rights movement because it was for liberty. Now we are in an epic struggle for the rights of the individual vs. the power of the State and they won't stand and fight.

Quote
Despite no members of Congress being on the ballot in Virginia Tuesday, Cuccinelli firmly believes unfulfilled promises in Washington depressed the GOP turnout.

“Republicans are demoralized and dispirited at the complete failure of Republicans to keep their promises in Washington,” Cuccinelli said. “As far as ordinary Republican voters can remember, they haven’t delivered on anything.”

Quote
However, Cuccinelli said Republicans do face a bigger problem that has nothing to do with this year’s political dynamics – the influx of big-government liberals into Northern Virginia.

“The astonishing growth of the federal government over the past two decades has led to a massive importation of pro-government voters into Northern Virginia,” he said. “Somebody’s got to run that growing leviathan, right?

“They haven’t moved to Maryland for the past 35 years. They moved to Virginia because the taxes are lower and quality of life is higher. But they vote like where they come from: New York, California, Illinois, Massachusetts.”

Cuccinelli nails it.
The Republic is lost.

You are cetainly right about the GOP House bill being poorly thought out and written.

Who would INCREASE the lowest rate for the poorest taxpayers and keep calling it a tax rate cut for everyone?   Are they stupid,  crazy or is this some weird joke ??

The GOP mentioned the name of a current sports figure, Stephen Curry,  as an analogy in their official tax bill they released last Thursday.  After it became news, they removed his name.

Stephen Curry puzzled over mention in GOP tax proposal

    * Stephen Curry is the only person named in the tax package unveiled Thursday by House Republicans.

    * "It was weird, that's about it," Curry said.

Trump's whole idea for tax reform was supposed to make taxes lower and more simple.
But in the 400 plus pages [so far] in the GOP tax bill that actually raises taxes on millions
least able to afford it, the GOP has managed to make it even more complex and confusing.

The Pubs are going to be left in the dust because their failure to implement real change will lead to the return to power of an even more radical leftist Rat party.

They don't care - as long as they have a seat at the Statist/Socialist Beast's table.  They are happy to play 'opposition party Kabuki Theater' to beguile their hapless party slaves on their plantation, while enabling the Leviathan to infiltrate into every aspect of life.  Republican leadership thinks they can manage a Soviet system more efficiently than the Marxists in the Democrat Party.

The leftists will force their agenda on the majority of Americans who don't want it and then they will respond with an even more caustic, strong willed, populist. The Pubs will be pushed aside. They have shown themselves to be worthless in this fight for liberty.

Old news, and each time the suggestion to abandon a failed party to establish a Conservative one outside the cesspool of Mordor on the Potomac, the Party Slaves go berserk and insist such an effort is doomed before it even begins.

Well, it's either we try that - or a bloodbath is inevitable.  There is no other option.  More than half the population WANTS a SocialistCommunist country run by Corrupt Oligarchs.

Reminds me of the old movie,  "Hospital",  with George C Scott.

In the movie, the hospital does something to make a supposedly comatose patient angry.   So he proceeds to get even with the hospital... not overtly... but by stealth... by secretly putting individual hospital personnel in precarious situations and/or unstable conditions and then let the ineptness of the hospital itself finish them off.

It will have to be a "fight" for liberty.  It should be painfully obvious it will not come by government ballot box.

The below quote from the 1836 Texas Declaration of Independence is an example.

The Texas Declaration of Independence goes into much detail why Anglo Texans could no longer tolerate the abusive Mexican government.  Texas Anglos [who were mostly Protestant] were also rebelling against the Mexican supremacy of the Catholic Church.  In our current day, the Left's cultural marxist social agenda has become the new religion of the federal government who has also imposed the state's new cultural marxist religion on us at the point of bayonets.

Here is a quote... go to link for the entire document.

" The Unanimous Declaration of Independence made by the Delegates of the People of Texas
in General Convention at the town of Washington on the 2nd day of March 1836.

" When a government has ceased to protect the lives, liberty and property of the people, from whom its legitimate powers are derived, and for the advancement of whose happiness it was instituted, and so far from being a guarantee for the enjoyment of those inestimable and inalienable rights, becomes an instrument in the hands of evil rulers for their oppression.

When the Federal Republican Constitution of their country, which they have sworn to support, no longer has a substantial existence, and the whole nature of their government has been forcibly changed, without their consent, from a restricted federative republic, composed of sovereign states, to a consolidated central military despotism, in which every interest is disregarded but that of the army and the priesthood, both the eternal enemies of civil liberty, the everready minions of power, and the usual instruments of tyrants.

When, long after the spirit of the constitution has departed, moderation is at length so far lost by those in power, that even the semblance of freedom is removed, and the forms themselves of the constitution discontinued, and so far from their petitions and remonstrances being regarded, the agents who bear them are thrown into dungeons, and mercenary armies sent forth to force a new government upon them at the point of the bayonet.

When, in consequence of such acts of malfeasance and abdication on the part of the government, anarchy prevails, and civil society is dissolved into its original elements. In such a crisis, the first law of nature, the right of self-preservation, the inherent and inalienable rights of the people to appeal to first principles, and take their political affairs into their own hands in extreme cases, enjoins it as a right towards themselves, and a sacred obligation to their posterity, to abolish such government, and create another in its stead, calculated to rescue them from impending dangers, and to secure their future welfare and happiness.

Nations, as well as individuals, are amenable for their acts to the public opinion of mankind. A statement of a part of our grievances is therefore submitted to an impartial world, in justification of the hazardous but unavoidable step now taken, of severing our political connection with the Mexican people, and assuming an independent attitude among the nations of the earth.

The Mexican government, by its colonization laws, invited and induced the Anglo-American population of Texas to colonize its wilderness under the pledged faith of a written constitution, that they should continue to enjoy that constitutional liberty and republican government to which they had been habituated in the land of their birth, the United States of America.

In this expectation they have been cruelly disappointed, inasmuch as the Mexican nation has acquiesced in the late changes made in the government by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who having overturned the constitution of his country, now offers us the cruel alternative, either to abandon our homes, acquired by so many privations, or submit to the most intolerable of all tyranny, the combined despotism of the sword and the priesthood. "

Do you remember all the media propaganda about how busy the GOP leaders were creating their new tax plan ?

I knew then that much of the tax changes the GOP was touting [that was put in their new tax bill released last Thursday] was literally taken from the GOP's June 2016 "Blueprint -A Better Way" tax plan.

Passing something, not fixing a problem, was the goal.  How inept can a party be to have one simple goal "pass something" but be unable to do it?  Because of this President Trump is left with Executive Orders...a solution President Trump and his supporters scorned when Obama did it.

If they had followed the model the Democrats use, they would have been writing bills and just waiting for a chance to stuff the hopper when they got a chance to pass them. It's how the Dems did so much damage when BO got elected. They had the whole convoy of misery loaded up and ready to roll when the doors opened.

The problem with the executive orders is that they can be countermanded just as easily. It's a temporary relief. Lasting relief must come from the Congress.

No branch or agency of government, even if subject to popular election, will ever voluntarily agree to reduce its own power.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn
