It took Eunhee Park until her early 20s to feel she was living "like a human being".The clothes she uses to arm herself against its unpredictable weather – a dress spotted with flowers and a large pink cardigan – would have seen her arrested in the town where she was born, as would the highlights scattered through her hair.

Eunhee is one of the few defectors from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea who make Australia their home – temporarily, at least.
Five years ago she had not heard of Australia, much less Melbourne. Now the 26-year-old lives here.
