I haven't been watching, but then again, western PA has, up until.a few days ago, enjoyed an extended summer. So no way in hell am I going to stay home on a nice day and watchthe Steelers.
But now that wintry weather is almost upon us, I will have to figure out what else to do on game days. Binge watching something on Netflix is an option. Or catching up on some reading. I'd call my aunt, but she's probably still watching the Steelers. 86 years old and a diehard fan.
But the Steelers have lost me as a fan. Probably wouldn't mean anything to them. But if enough people get tired of this political karp, maybe their diminishing bottom line will compel the owners to do the right thing and forbid this display of disrespect for our country and the people who fought and died for it.
I kept waiting for the commissioner to do something with Kaepernick last season. But he just allowed it to fester, game after game, and now of course it's out of control.
Goodell had every justification under current NFL rules: pasted below (sorry if this has been posted before)
The specific NFL rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league rulebook. It states: The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.
“During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition.
It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”
