Gefken had killed Jews in cold blood and “had not hesitated to throw acid in the faces of his enemies,” according to the book “Hitler in Los Angeles: How Jews Foiled Nazi Plots Against Hollywood and America,” by Steven J. Let us not forget that at the time National Socialism was considered left wing and preferred to communism by the elite and so-called intelligentsia. They no doubt had lots of sympathizers here. I would imagine that some trying to thwart them were commies themselves.

Bund activity gained a good following: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_American_Bund. But evaporated with our entry into the war.

The Samuel Dickstein mentioned was apparently a Soviet agent: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Dickstein_(congressman)

The population of the North was so much greater than the South that the KKK had a good number of members there. But I don't think those groups were very serious.

The Bund was supposed to be for people of German descent.

Before Mussolini became fascist, he was socialist.

He also admired Stalin, although they became enemies.
