AP Poll: Support for gun control unchanged by Las Vegas shooting
Hot Air, Oct 20, 2017, John Sexton

A poll by the Associated Press found that while a majority of Americans still support stricter gun control, a result found in several previous polls, that support slipped slightly (down 3%) compared to the same poll last year.

However, the 3% decline is within the poll’s margin of error meaning it may not be significant.

In any case, the AP headlines the fact that just weeks after the worst shooting in modern American history, the numbers remain basically unchanged. The Associated Press story is titled “Vegas shooting doesn’t change opinions on guns.”

Vegas shooting doesn’t change opinions on guns: AP-NORC poll
Associated Press, Oct 20, 2017, LISA MARIE PANE and EMILY SWANSON

ATLANTA (AP) — The slaying of five dozen people in Las Vegas did little to change Americans’ opinions about gun laws.

The nation is closely divided on whether restricting firearms would reduce such mass shootings or homicides, though a majority favor tighter laws as they have for several years, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

The massive divide on stricter limits remains firmly in place.
