Susan Collins to Remain in Senate, Skip Governor Run
NBC News, Oct 13, 2017

ROCKPORT, Maine — Ending months of speculation, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, announced Friday she will forgo a run for governor to stay in the Senate, where she has become a crucial swing vote in Republicans’ narrow two-seat majority.

“I want to continue to play a key role in advancing policies,” Collins said at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast at a golf resort here. “I have concluded that the best way that I can contribute to these priorities is to remain a member of the United States Senate."

What you concluded is that no one in your state wants you there. They want you far away in DC.

Being a "critical vote" in the US Senate seems a like a better opportunity for graft than mere Governor of a tiny state.

Because she knew she'd lose to the Rat if she ran for Governor.

Why vote for a Dem-Lite when you can vote for the real thing.

Good point, but she'd have to start at the bottom of the learning curve, unless she's been cultivating the crony contacts she'll need to extract the goodies from them.

LePage (Maine's governor) is term limited in 2018 and can't run for that office again.

I'd like to see him run against her, in any way possible.

Let him run as a Republican or Independent, doesn't matter.

I think he could beat her.

Term limits.  It's the only way.

Never gonna happen because we know who would have to vote on it.

I have been anticipating or some time that Palin may pop back up in some Senate race.

Hope she has already bought a house in Maine.

I doubt she'd be interested.  She'd make a good lightning rod, yeah, but I think she's already paid her dues to that end.  Besides, if she ever got into the Senate she'd be just another John McCain.

So you think she would oppose Roy Moore after backing him during primary?

No, I don't think she'd change her endorsement.  I also think people in AL don't give the tiniest rat's butt what she thinks about anything, to be honest with you.

I doubt she has much interest, in the plodding slow pace of the Senate.

I do NOT see her like McCain, taking pride in blocking good legislation, to keep his "Maverick" meme going.

I do not disagree with you.  McCain wants his glory by being a negative and enjoying platitudes by the liberals.

Palin is to conservatives what Hillary is to liberals.  They each have rabid followers that gravitate around them, and as many people who utterly reject what they stand for.

I do NOT see her like McCain, taking pride in blocking good legislation, to keep his "Maverick" meme going.

A few years back, the AZ GOP (The actual Party, not a sub-group like the Assembly) got it's back up over McCain's constant double-dealng with the Dems.  They actually passed a resolution at the State Party Convention censuring McCain's actions.  Palin criticized the Party for that, in the most bitter of terms, and as a result her name is mud in AZ.  She couldn't get elected dog-catcher here.

You bet your fanny she'd be just like McCain.  She idolizes him.

I don't see her running in Maine. The Collins's of this world succeed there because they reflect the populace.

In fact...I would be surprised if Palin ran for anything...any where. That may not be a bad thing.
