Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders will debate the Republican tax plan next week in an event hosted by CNN, the network announced Wednesday.

The face-off will pit one of the Senate's most conservative Republicans and an advocate of major tax cuts against one of the most liberal members of the Senate who has long opposed tax cuts for high earners, and has proposed raising taxes to fund larger government projects.

The Oct. 18 debate will center on the tax plan backed by President Trump and congressional GOP leadership, which would lower individual and business tax rates and eliminate the estate tax.

Cruz has called for ensuring that the framework translates into a supply-side tax cut. "We need to embrace unapologetically that we're doing a tax cut," the Texan said last week as he outlined his aims for the eventual legislation at the Capitol.

Sanders, I-Vt., has called the GOP framework "morally repugnant."

That was my first thought. Why would Bernie want to debate him again?? Bernie must feel his tax plan is better.

Ironically, the GOP is putting itself between a rock and a hard place and is too blind to see it.
Their tax cuts for the rich will come back to bite them... whether their bill passes or not.

At what level of income do you consider people being "rich"?

My definition doesn't matter.

The GOP has been set up to lose because of their oligarch greed.

Ironically, Trump has helped set them up to lose.

Even if the GOP's proposed tax "reform" passes... because of the large number of low and middle income people who will be hurt by it... the GOP will lose.

Either way it's a lose/lose situation.

If you want your opinion to mean something there has to be some understanding of the terms you use. "Rich" doesn't mean much and is central to your argument by your own words. Without some definition of it your anger of the "rich" getting a tax break doesn't mean much.

It doesn't matter who wins the Sanders/Cruz debate...
the class warfare die has already been cast by the GOP.

The first week I was here I posted details how lower
and middle incomes are going to be hurt... only to be
attacked over and over by the same oligarch mentality
that has propelled the GOP to commit political suicide.

At the same time, I have tried to contact my congressman
and senators [Cruz is one of them] and only one of them
bothered to send a vague generic form letter in return...
because they are all too busy digging their own graves.

The irony of it all is quite amusing...

All I know is I have this debate marked on my calendar and I'm stocking up on popcorn. This is going to be far better than watching a Steelers game.
