WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump will nominate Kirstjen Nielsen, who as top aide to his White House chief of staff has sought to instill order in Trump’s team, to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday.

If confirmed by the Senate, Nielsen would take the reins at a sprawling department with more than 240,000 employees that is responsible for U.S. border and airport security, immigration policy, disaster response, refugee admissions and other matters.

Off the wall spelling of names has been the thing for some time now. For Americans, that is. Immigrants tend to simplify their names to make life easier.

I thought it would be Scandinavian but couldn't find that name in a web search.

Pretty common around these parts. Still see that in these parts even four or five generations from 'the old country' (often Norway), most commonly in surnames. Pronounce the 'j' as an 'i' and you'll be passably close.
