Smartphone lets you see round corners by light flicker on floor

The walls may not have eyes – but you can turn them into cameras that let you see around corners. Armed with a smartphone and some straightforward optical analysis, a team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has shown that you can spot moving objects hidden from view around corners. By watching changes in the reflected light pooling on the floor at the base of a wall, they were able to trace the paths of people not visible through the open door. The technique could be used by vehicles to spot pedestrians in blind spots or let response teams see around corners in hostage situations.
