Texas Tech campus locked down, 'shooter at large'

Texas Tech University officials said a shooter was "at large" late Monday, as they locked down the campus and urged students and staff to "take shelter."

The shooting took place at the university's police department, the officials said.

How awful.  Prayers for the defenseless kids stuck on campus.  I hope they catch the shooter soon

My oldest daughter's best friend goes to school there in Lubbock.  Just talked to her...she's ok...just freaking out right now.

It happened around 8 p.m. on Monday night at the Texas Tech Police building at 413 Flint Avenue.

Texas Tech officials tell us they brought a student in for a welfare check, once at the PD building, the student pulled a gun and shot the officer, killing him. Then the student fled.

Police tell us the shooter fled in a vehicle and is still at large as of Monday night. Texas Tech campus is on lockdown, everyone on campus should take shelter in a safe location. UMC is also on lockdown.

Totally avoidable shooting from what I've read so far.  Cops should have patted him down before taking him into the station.

Sounds like it   Here’s hoping he ran the opposite way from campus.  I’m very grateful that my kids  in grad school live off campus where they are able to defend themselves.

KCBD in Lubbock is reporting that the shooter is now in custody.

He was nabbed on the East side of Jones Stadium.

A friend of mine in Midland pointed out very accurately (and humorously) that the campus lockdown was more to protect the shooter than the students.

Those Panhandle farm boys (and girls) don't take kindly to someone killing cops and would have shot him had he ventured off campus and in their direction LOL!  The lockdown saved the shooters life.


Now that we've had some levity...


Prayers for the family of the Campus Police Officer who was killed tonight.

Glad I voted for a solid 2nd amendment presidential candidate like Trump unlike the yokels who wouldn't sully their vote and talk about taking up arms against the government, another gun toting yahoo like this puts our rights in danger.

My oldest daughter is at Texas Tech.  She and her friends were freaking out as well with the "Shelter in Place" texts being sent out by the University.
