Angry GOP donors close their wallets

'I’m sick and tired of nothing happening,' one contributor says of the party's legislative failures.

By ALEX ISENSTADT and GABRIEL DEBENEDETTI

Republicans are confronting a growing revolt from their top donors, who are cutting off the party in protest over its inability to get anything done.

Tensions reached a boiling point at a recent dinner at the home of Los Angeles billionaire Robert Day. In full view of around two dozen guests, Thomas Wachtell, a retired oil and gas investor and party contributor, delivered an urgent message to the night’s headliner, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: Just do something.

Wachtell, who has given tens of thousands of dollars over the years to Senate Republicans, recalled that McConnell responded defensively. Passing legislation takes time, the Republican leader responded, and President Donald Trump didn’t seem to understand how long it required.

I don't recall the interview but I think they are talking about me.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I haven't donated to the 'GOP' in quite a few years only to individual candidates ... and that decision was even before Priebus headed the RNC and Boner headed the Senate.

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

And why not?

The National GOP and the Senate Republican Senate Committee just blew away $30 million supporting a losing cause in Alabama.

Why should we wish donations to be flushed down the toilet like that?

That's a really, really, stupid idea.

Funny how the Pubs had no problem promising to repeal obamacare immediately if we gave them the House, Senate and Presidency.

I don't blame Pres. Trump for this broken promise. He would have signed anything they put in front of him.

http://dailycaller.com/2017/09/19/the-rnc-doubled-the-dnc-in-august-fundraising/

The Republican National Committee raised nearly $3 million more than the Democrat National Committee in the month of August.

The RNC raised $7.3 million in the month of August, while the DNC raised only $4.35 million, according to FEC filings. This gives the RNC a total of $45.8 million cash on hand, while the DNC has only $6.8 million.

In addition, the RNC owes $0 in debt, while the DNC now owes slightly above $4 million in debt.

The problem is that Mitch -will- do something... something wrong, like amnesty!

Might be the first time I could relate to these wealthy donors.  I haven't gotten anything for my  investment either.  But I am glad they aren't.  Part of the swamp.  So close up your wallets.

Government would be better if they didn't owe anyone anything.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

.

I remember when congressmen used to answer voters' questions and help their constituents with issues.

Today they only respond to deep pocket lobbyists... and the rest of us can eat cake.

Now when I call or write my congressman,  I only get a generic form letter back.  Sometimes it's the wrong form letter on a totally different subject.

Since they won't take their time and effort to represent me... why should I take my time and effort to vote for political prostitutes who only represent their rich oligarch sugar daddies.

This is where the conservative caucus needs to put up or shut up. Though we don't have a ton of GOP candidates to primary, we have a boatload of Dems in the Senate (and I assume House) that are D+10 or less (a 10 pt spread is a 5 point swing) in a Governor election year where Republicans outvote Democrats.

So court these donors, run good candidates, add a half dozen or more seats to the Senate, and nobody is going to give a crap how John McCain, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski vote.

Doing similar in the House will bolster that position.
The Republic is lost.
