Paul Ryan tried to persuade White House to keep Tom Price: Report
by Anna Giaritelli | Oct 3, 2017, 2:42 PM

House Speaker Paul Ryan tried to persuade the Trump White House not to force out Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, according to a report Tuesday.

White House chief of staff John Kelly called Ryan, a longtime friend of the former Georgia congressman, minutes before Price's departure was announced.

During that heads-up call, Ryan asked Kelly to rethink the decision, according to Politico. Ryan and Price have a long history as friends in the House prior to the current administration.

However, Kelly did not back down and ended the call after a short period of time.

Price resigned last Friday after the public learned he had used private planes on more than two dozen occasions instead of flying commercial. The 26 trips cost taxpayers more than $1 million.
