FEMA chief blasted for calling Puerto Rico mission ‘most logistically challenging event the US has ever seen’
By Julia Manchester - 10/01/17 12:56 PM EDT

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator Brock Long faced backlash on Sunday for calling the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico "the most logistically challenging event the United States has ever seen."

"I would like him to rephrase that completely," Schatz tweeted, referring to Long's statement.

Event of this type. I'm pretty sure he's heard of WWII.

No  power, no comms, no computers, no fuel. Makes it pretty difficult to muster resources or distribute the ones there.

You would think the first thing off the boat after a small load of water, food, and fuel, would be a communications center. From that, and talking with the people on the ground, you can tailor packages to reestablish comms and power, even if only on a limited basis, and distribute fuel.

A little thought to such problems would prioritize reestablishing cell/radio communications, computers and internet to help move supplies, both incoming and existing.

Shipping records should be available from points of origin to sort out existing containers and prioritize supplies there already vs nonessential materials.

Who cares how he characterized it? What he's saying is its a big deal, logistically.

Did anybody consider the possibility Socialist truckers would go on strike and repel the scabs trying to help?  That can really gum up the efforts.  New York got a taste of that with Sandy, so it isn't unthinkable.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

If you can't get a hold of the truckers, you can't get them to the trucks, they can't move cargo, but it's in 40 ft. containers and has to be sorted out, too. That is all computerized. No computers, no internet, no cell phones, no power, no fuel, no manifests. It is a logistical mess.

It's like these people are scouring the Internet looking for anything to go, "AHA!"

It's more Katrina redux, trying to make a logistical problem or a local failure to prepare for infrastructure collapse into a "racist" issue. No, it's a big mess, and the political overtones are only making things more complicated.

Are all the cell towers still down?  I find it very strange 80% of the truckers are nowhere to be found.

Cell towers don't work without power.  And backup generators don't work without fuel.

Exactly. There are multiple points of failure, all with problems.

So, what happened to this place that killed all individual initiative?

Two serious hurricanes hit them. We don't know what is being done by people in their little areas. For all we know they are making tremendous progress. They may just be sitting and waiting to be 'rescued'. The news is trying to portray folks down there as victims of the Trump, so we won't hear many success stories out of the back country, where I really doubt folks are sitting on their asses and just whining. Country folks survive.

Then let's hope the rest of us survive the news blackout, because this is going to played like there's no tomorrow.  It's all-in time for the Left.

All we're getting is spin from people like the Mayor pf San Juan, who's whiter than I am, complaining how Americans are neglecting (and allowing to die) the poor brown Puerto Ricans because racism, while pictures of her float on the web smooching FALN terrorists on their asses.  And CNN laughs in delight, ignoring the tens of thousands of mainlanders helping out.

This is a Media created artifact. There are a lot more people in Puerto Rico, and plenty of other towns. Instead of bitching to the US MSM they are cooperating with and assisting relief crews and aren't on television bitching instead. The San Juan Mayor won't even tie in with and cooperate with FEMA.

We aren't hearing from the Governor of PR, we aren't hearing from the other mayors, just this one. What's that tell you?
