NFL LIVE Thread Week 4
« on: September 26, 2017, 04:54:03 pm »
BTW on the other site there has been a war of sorts going on with me in the crosshairs, so in the spirit of full disclosure:

Back in the 1930s and 1940s, film producer Samuel Goldwyn was renown for his quotes such as "If you want to send a message, call Western Union."

And that was pretty much how it was in films, the coming television industry and in sports. There was politics and there was entertainment. Sadly, it is that no more--

I am a Baby Boomer, a term seldom heard these days as we are all getting into our 70 years of age, a demographic advertisers ignore as if we are already dead and gone.

The Left started putting more and more of their political views into the news media, then into films. Then television. They got "Hate Speech" to suppress any speech they did like. That has has evolved into today's demanding that any view not in step with the Left not even be allowed. Now, my opinion is being suppressed not by the Left, but by those on Free Republic that say I an un-American and not Conservative because I will not go along with their view that my NFL LIVE THREAD is at fault and to be blamed, not Colin Kaepernick and his supporters. What was two different opinions has turned into a pack of worthless thugs the Left Wing would be proud of--

My politics has always been Conservative Republican yet nowadays I am curse by people and told my opinion is not worth of even being allowed on Free Republic.

What is that opinion that is so damned?

Well, I condemned Colin Kaepernick when he dissed the National Anthem last year. I condemned other NFL players who did the same. I agreed they had the right to their opinion but not to dis saluting Old Glory and the vets who fought for Free Speech.

I agree with President Trump that NFL owner have the right to fire players who disrespect the flag and National Anthem. It is a private business that can suspend players for bad actions and to my way of thinking, their kneeling is one very bad action.

Yet I continued positing my NFL Thread as I felt I had the right to-- That is why I am today cast here on FR as the greatest traitor to America since Benedict Arnold.

So, what to do?

I do not ask that anyone support those NFL players who kneel when the "Star Spangles Banner' is sung. I do not ask anyone watch the NFL games. I do not ask anyone to do anything they do not want to--

However, the following I will still post until I am told I cannot do so.

Since My Boys are playing La Ewes this week, I though a little movie history would be of interest.  There have been three films in which the Los Angeles Rams are featured that I could track down:

In 1949, one of my guilty pleasures actors, Victor Mature, played the lead in Easy Living...  about the tirals and tribulations of the starting QB of the New York Chiefs as he discovers love-life and health issues that may end his pro football career.  Most of the real NFL players in the film are LA Rams, including Tom Fears and Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch of which we shall hear more of in the next film.

I recall seeing this Easy Living on our old black & white TV with my parents in 1958 when we lived in El Paso.  My Mom told the story of having met Victor Mature when she and my father were at the Adolphus Hotel in 1952 to attend a Dallas Texans game in the Cotton Bowl.  My Dad chimed in, "And the SOB tried to get Torchy to go for a drink with him!"

This was the first pro football movie I ever saw and while I couldn't find a copy of it on the internet today, I remember it being an okay film.  I am sure the acting/production style of the late 1940s would hold up.

Next is Crazylegs a 1953 film...    about the LA Ram's Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch whose unconventional dynamic running style which the sport media of the day dubbed him "Crazylegs".  Hirsch played himself in the film that featured many of the real LA Rams playing themselves. The first half of this film is centered on his college days at the University of Wisconsin and University of Michigan plus his service in the Marine during World War Two.

The final portion is his LA Ram's playing days where an injury almost ends of his career, yet in both real life and true Hollywood style, "Crazylegs" achieves a triumphant return.  The film is on youtube at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QSVU2am1AA Considering the film was made in 1953, it holds up well.

Lastly, we have Heaven Can Wait a 1978 American fantasy-comedy that Warren Beatty and Buck Henry updating a remake of 1941's Here Comes Mr. Jordan with the boxing angle changed to pro football via the LA Rams.

I saw this in the theater when it came out and while not a big Warren Beatty fan, it was a funny take on the original film's concept with some pretty good scenes featuring Beatty as a passable pro quarterback:

The actual Rams that had cameo roles in the film included Deacon Jones, Les Josephson, Jack Snow, Jim Boeke and Charley Cowan.

Okay, now on to this week's picks--

Must admit I did not care for the whole team kneel down before the National Anthem but they did all stand when it was played--

Was getting concerned...    about My Boys play in the first half in the desert--

Yet they came back...     and won the game

So, Thursday night finds big's Packer Wackers...    eating Imp's Bears

In Sunday action we again fly off once more to ye ole London Town where Da Ain'ts have a feast of Da Phins & Chips--

Them Georgia Dark Byrds pick Buffalo clean at Atlanta--

While I am tempted to pick Carolina, no way does Cam pull it off against big's Uncle Toms--

Cincy falls flat again against the Brownstains--

Da Loinchopps squeek by them Horny Viqueens--

The Jags get free lap dances at them Jersey Jets at NY Jets' landing & pole dancing strip club--

My Boys cut the La Ewes' mutton all thick and harty--

The Stoolers shoot down the low flying Crab City Buzzards--

Allegra's Texicans beat Allegar's Old Earlers--

Dem Jersey Jints continue their fall to the Bucking Ears--

Da Iggles get a semi-bye at La Bolts' high school 'Soccer it to me!" stadium--

Y'all avert your eyes...    cause it won't be pretty as Arid Zona slaps the Soapy 9ers silly--

Seven's Waiders bounce back to take a close one from the Poinie at Mile High--

The Seathugs slide by Luckless Indy--

Monday Night Feetball has my Old Dallas Texans stomping the Deadskins--
ESPN Arrowhead Stadium

Okay, y'all get you picks in while I do some research...    on things that could change the conversation--

Better to save the sport then lose it. I'm with ya Bender. Trump tossed it into the spotlight , lets hash it out.

Sadly, they folded in 2016--  And I fear it was my fault...    I didn't renew my season tickets!

Gadzooks--  I made a lot of money...    off those gals--

Now the only women's team out there in the Lone Star State...    is from the Peoples Socialist Republic of Austin--

Come on, girls...    Come to Bendy!

Move here and become...    a symbol of freedom!

I'll even...  coach y'all!
