White House Spied On Trump And Lied About It, Says CNN — Is This Worse Than Richard Nixon?

    6:39 PM ET

Wiretapping: The U.S. government under President Obama wiretapped former Trump campaign Chair Paul Manafort in New York's Trump Tower under "secret court orders before and after the election," CNN reported, citing "three sources familiar with the investigation." Assuming CNN's report is true, it means President Trump, who was ridiculed earlier this year for claiming that his iconic building had been wiretapped, has been massively vindicated. But don't hold your breath waiting for an apology.

If CNN is reporting it, it must bad. And yes it would be worse than Nixon, because Obama used the legal and nat'l security offices of the FedGov to do it.

The Democrats are criminalizing politics and turning the USA into a banana republic. This is what third world dictators do, manufacturer a crime and then throw their political opponents in jail over it. The deep state agent Mueller should be ashamed of himself.

I think CNN is setting up for a different angle here. First, yes, they do have to recover from the "Trump lied about being wiretapped" headlines, but I think they are leading toward a different story.

Specifically around Manafort being an unregistered foreign agent. Technically illegal, he did admit to it, and he did correct his filings. Purely as a matter of practice, it seemed to be nothing more than a paperwork snafu, however, I think CNN is going to start to bring this together in the coming week or so.

My prediction will be the story will build like this:

Yes, Obama did spy on the Trump campaign but they had a legitimate national security reason. Manafort already admitted illegally being an unregistered foreign agent working for the Trump campaign. This was seen as a national security risk involving 'hacking' the election (they'll continue to use the term incorrectly) and possibly espionage. The Obama administration had to deny it because of national security interests and it being an ongoing investigation. The accusations and admissions about Manafort are very disturbing and offer proof that foreign governments did aid the Trump campaign to steal the election.. yadda yadda....

Manafort appears now to be fighting back and making it public. He maybe might have some success with that, who knows. I can’t imagine under normal circumstances an attorney allowing a client to go public unless both are confident there’s nothing there.

Compared to this, Nixon was a piker.

I did not expect Manafort to flip the tables like that and call Mueller's bluff, but now with it coming out on how much Obama spied on Trump and associates I can see he was trying to ride with that momentum.

It's really starting to look like a witch hunt now, and maybe a bit of a cover up by the Dems and Obama.
The Republic is lost.

I remember the old days when you used to be glad when people didn't make things personal and stuck to the issue.

But since you brought it up, scanning through the archived articles on this matter when it came up before, pretty much everyone worked under the assumption that Obama or Rice did it and there was a lot of good discussions from all sides of how Obama was going to play it off, the legality of FISA warrants, etc.

But keep on going on creating divisions, the rest of us will discuss the issue.

We've always been civil to each other, even when disagreeing.  So, in that vein....

That they made things "personal" - that they STILL tot his day make it "personal" with the "Orange" references..."Cultists"....is the reason I, and many Trump supporters take it personally.

A lot of NTs defended the "fake news".

Like John Kerry....."It's seared into my brain....."   ^-^

THIS....from the guy who refused to give praise to President Trump on his internationally acclaimed UN Speech...instead snarking that he didn't write the speech himself.

Carry on....dude!    ^-^

You're just a bitter loser.  And a much worse political prognosticator.

In a way, you're no different than Hillary Clinton book tour antics....STILL pretending your opinions bear any weight [in the end].

You're on every thread that has a negative connotation of the man.

Would love to see Manafort thoroughly expose Mueller as the partisan hack that he indeed IS now.

  • RIP Blue, 2012-2020---my big, gentle friend.
Bad enough: the Obama White House possibly spying on Donaldus Minimus last year.

Worse enough: the Nixon White House a) spying on its own people (if I remember right, that
was Henry Kissinger's brilliant idea to have several White House phones tapped---including
then-speechwriter William Safire, who fumed publicly over it when he discovered it, by
which discovery Safire had a very wide platform: he'd become a New York Times
columnist); and, b) trying to sic the CIA on the FBI to back the FBI off the Watergate
investigations.

True enough: Show me a White House, almost any White House, and you could probably find
some administration spying on some candidate, if not its own people. And, alas, it
didn't begin with Watergate.

Your actions say otherwise.  In your actions, in what you post, you worship Donald Trump.  It's disgusting watching one human being worship another human being.

That's a simple fact, one you might recognize if you had an ounce of self respect.

And yes, I am a pretty poor political prognosticator, mainly because I have an unfortunate habit of assuming that people are smarter and wiser than they actually are.
