Trump calls North Korea leader 'rocket man' at UN
By Mallory Shelbourne - 09/19/17 10:35 AM EDT

President Trump in his first address to the United Nations General Assembly referred to North Korea’s leader as “rocket man,” a label the president has recently used to refer to Kim Jong-Un.

“Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime,” Trump said during the speech.

“The United States is ready, willing and able, but hopefully this will not be necessary. That’s what the United Nations is all about. That’s what the United Nations is for. Let’s see how they do.”

The president's reference to the United Nations' role fits with his prior criticism that the intergovernmental organization is ineffective.

The UN has absolutely no idea how to bring NK in check.

Now if you wanted to provide some young girls for their troops to rape or bribes to give, well then they got ya covered.

I wouldn't be surprised at all that Kim Jong Un loves the idea of the world thinking of him as a "rocket man".  I think that's exactly what he wants.

To date NK missiles have harmed no one.   Long time ago France tested a nuclear device IN the atmosphere against every country's admonition.    Pakistan has nukes as well as other bad actors.
All this blather against NK is nothing more than a distraction.    As if Afghanistan and Iraq aren't enough of a problem. And then there is Syria and Iran.
When Trump had the chance to undo the Iran deal............he punted.
Trump doesn't even talk a good game.

None of those other countries have been announcing on a near daily basis that they intend to destroy America.   So its hardly a manufactured issue.

Nope.  Very embarrassing.  Unpresidential

Content okay.  But could have been delivered drastically different.

Wait until confusion and hilarity ensues when Elton Jong's interpreter relays it as 'Locket Man.'

It was a good speech overall, but the "rocket man" nonsense really needs to stop.

@Rivergirl
Hardly an equal comparison.   In fact such a comparison not only shows a deep bias but incredible naivety.  As such it does a true disservice to the millions of people who have been killed by the actions (direct and indirect) of the Kim regimes.

Trump does and says some whacko things, true.   Has he had anyone assassinated in an airport with Sarin nerve gas?   Has he used anti-aircraft guns to kill his detractors?   Has he told the military to take food from civilians?  Has he starved several million people?   Does he imprison entire families (3 generations) for the slightest perceived disloyalty?

If Kim wasn't threatening to use nuclear weapons on America and our allies I sincerely doubt Trump would even know where NK was on the map let alone spare the time to say anything.

So when Kim Jong-un actually threatens the US to turn it into ashes or the other countries he has threatened, Japan, Australia and even Israel; it doesn't mean a thing to you? Interesting perspective.

The Norks may never use them.  The biggest danger with them is proliferation.  That's how they obtained their reprocessing capabilities - through the Pakistani A. Q. Khan network.  North Korea has almost zero economy, except for their nuclear/rocket program. Consider who they might sell that technology to and realize the security danger to the world.
