GOP Rolls Out ‘Last-Ditch’ Bill To Repeal Obamacare
« on: September 14, 2017, 08:17:06 pm »

WASHINGTON — GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Dean Heller of Nevada and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin released legislation Wednesday to repeal and replace major portions of Obamacare with a system of block grants, a first step towards making good on a seven-year Republican campaign promise.

“Behind me is the only thing between you and single-payer health care,” Graham said Wednesday. “If you believe repealing and replacing Obamacare is a good idea, this is your best and only chance to make that happen.”

The bill would replace Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, subsidies for private insurance companies (cost-sharing reductions) and tax-credits for middle-income Americans with block grants. The new funding mechanism would start in 2020 and would provide states with the opportunity to apply for grants from a pool of $136 billion. That pool would grow nearly 50 percent in six years, reaching $200 billion in 2026. The legislation does not provide permanent funding for the block grant program, funding would have to be addressed again in 2026.

They are not going to get rid of it. They will finally rebrand it, make it even more expensive, especially for the people who fall through the cracks, and generally foul things up more than ever.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Yup.  To the point where the democrats can pitch themselves as heroes coming to our collective rescue with U.K. style single-payer socialized health "care".

I've been saying -- all of the Republicans' promises (including those made by Trump) will be "fulfilled" by any old POS legislation they come up with.  The legislation won't "repeal" Obamacare, it won't "fix" our immigration problem, it won't provide "tax reform."  But Trump and the Republicans will sell all of it as "repeal" "fix" and "tax reform."  Then they will high five one another and congratulate themselves on "fulfilling" their promises.

The really pathetic part is that there will be people, particularly Trump supporters, who will join the charade and call it "winning."

C'mon, Republicans, sublimate your differences for the common good and support this bill.  No defections - 50 Senators can move mountains.  Or not, and the alternative will be single payer.

By refusing to do anything about the Obamacare death spiral, the GOP has tacitly signed up with supporting single-payer.

With the GOP siding with the Dem on this, at this point I don't see anyway to avoid government run healthcare. It's all but a done deal. It's not about 'IF'. Now, it is only about 'WHEN' and 'HOW'.

The Democrats can try to claim credit for it, but it is the Republicans who will make single payer a reality.

It would seem that the GOP and the Republican politicians told quite few LIES while Obama was in office. They knew that Obama would never call their bluff, and that the voters would believe them.

They were all willfully lying through their teeth. The Republican Party, is the new party of liars. I think they may have even put the Dems to shame on abject duplicity. They never had any intention at all of doing any of the things they said. Republicans would say anything to get elected.

They only care about themselves; their own enrichment and their own power. They have proven through their actions that they do not care in the least what the people who voted for them want.

I'm confused.  Are we talking about healthcare insurance or amnesty?

I doubt they *want* single payer other than it's just another Fed Gov program to shuffle money into and out of and makes it harder and harder for us to prove they're stealing it.

Oh, I thought we were talking about open borders policies...(just kidding). The list is growing of things they promised to do and won't.

I just thought it was funny (not haha) that the terms you used to describe what was going to happen to healthcare coverage, "rebrand it" "make it more expensive" "people fall through the cracks", was appropriate to either topic.

BOHICA!

Something big will come up with us medically eventually, meaning me or my wife. And not having insurance won't mean a dang thing. For now,  even with my current medical bills (my leg), and past medical bills we are paying on, they are still far less than what insurance costs. Not having insurance is pretty low on my priority list right now. With the rate hikes, millions of people with insurance close to my situation are going to drop it. I doubt those figures will show up in any reports or studies. It is all a scam. Just another scam amid a slew of others.

Until it goes to single payer and the doctors won't be allowed to bill you directly.

That has been at the bottom of this whole thing from the git-go. This was never about health CARE, it was about health INSURANCE.
Pockets are getting lined, special interests are being catered to, and at the expense  of the health, income, jobs, and I'd wager lives of those who fall through the cracks.
Naturally that bunch of socialists and government employees in DC who have spent trillions of nonexistent money on anything under the sun don't realize that the rest of us, whether business or private individual have to pretty much pay as we go. The money comes from somewhere. Without it, things don't happen.
Our checkbooks have to balance.
What they have done is cost a lot of Americans perfectly workable ways of paying their medical bills, most commonly through a combination of high deductible or limited coverage (catastrophic care) insurance and paying out of pocket.

It is expensive to pick up the tab all of a sudden for every meth head and crack addict out there to do a year of 'treatment' and rehab, (maybe twice), and to pay for the 1.3 million already diagnosed HIV/AIDS sufferers out there, not to mention the people they infect.

Keep in mind that we would have picked up the tab for a lot of that anyway, through Medicaid or other government programs, now we pick up the tab for that (and more) because the costs for these patients to be insured and pay the insurance company people, and the hospital people to do the paperwork, earnings for the stockholders, and all the other middlemen between the patient and the doctor are folded in.

No wonder insurance costs 4 times what it did, has a higher deductible, and is now affordable for many of us, especially if we were self-employed.
