Most Voters Welcome Trump’s Outreach to Congressional Democrats
Rasmussen, Sep 13, 2017

Despite their failure to advance President Trump’s agenda, congressional Republicans aren’t happy about his outreach to Democrats in the House and Senate, but most voters think it’s a great idea.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 66% of Likely U.S. Voters say it is good for the country if Trump works with congressional Democrats to advance his agenda. Just 13% think the bipartisan cooperation is bad for the country, while 21% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Only 19% believe the president should continue to rely on congressional Republicans to pass his agenda. That’s down from 29% in early April. Sixty-five percent (65%) now feel he should reach out more to Democrats in Congress for help versus 58% who felt that way five months ago. Sixteen percent (16%) are not sure.

Republicans (72%) are even more enthusiastic about the president working with congressional Democrats than Democrats (62%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (63%) are.

'Cause we all know what 'reaching across the aisle' to work with Democrats means.

BOHICA!!!

Certainly THIS is why Trump won his unprecedented victory - voters were really fired up about the possibility of Trump working with Democrats.

All I can tell you for certain is that the abject FEAR that he would do that is why I refused to vote for him!

I don't think it's that simple @skeeter

Granted, we find ourselves in unchartered waters, but I think the voters made it clear in November that they want change, they want action.  Sorry to say, but the Republican caucus has proven itself the antithesis to both.

Those Republicans and Independents who voted for Trump want his agenda implemented---and they're saying they don't care if it takes Democrat votes to make this happen.

I would settle for uncharted waters. These waters are very charted. Trump, Ryan, Reagan - the democrats only go in one direction.

Oh it's true.

Communism and Statism is perfectly fine and acceptable as long as it's THEIR prince and party that is pushing it.  Hell, even on this board there are people who push the primacy of the state to abolish, restrict or supersede liberty if it suits their pet issues.

The questions were a bit leading:

Quote
1* Should President Trump continue to rely on congressional Republicans to pass his agenda, or should he reach out more to Democrats in Congress for help?

2* Is it good or bad for the country if President Trump works with congressional Democrats to advance his agenda if Republicans in Congress fail to act?

Of post-WWII Presidents elected to second terms, only Obama failed to gain a GREATER % vote share the second term.

Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and BushII won bigger the second time.

Eisenhower, (55.2 then 57.4), Nixon (43.4 then 60.7), Reagan (50.7 then 58.8), Clinton (43.0 then 49.2), BushII (47.9 then 50.7) and Obama (52.9 then 51.1).

Not off the top of my head, no I cannot @catfish1957 .

But as I said, we are in unchartered waters.  President Trump is focused on getting his agenda through Congress for the good of the American people.   He truly is agenda-driven, and this is new for all of us.  No other American President has put agenda first.

I'm holding out hope that the Republican caucus embraces its majority status and uses it to finally govern with the President--rather than against him.  So, God help us, we are at the mercy of McConnell and Ryan.

 :laughingdog:

Biggest pile of political bullshit I have yet read on this board.

Repeal ObamaCare much?  How about pushing for those tax cuts he promised?  How about that Wall Mexico was going to pay for?  The prosecution and Jailing of Hildabeast?

I guess his real agenda that you now laud as holy writ - is to extend the blank check and open credit card limit for another three months while putting Democrats in the Spending Seat.

Do you cross yourself each time you mention Trump by name or is it that you face the White House when you pray?

What "agenda" would that be pray tell?

The phrase "Trump's agenda" make me chuckle only a little less than the phrase "Trump's wisdom". I have yet to see an actual list of what that is. Even more to the point, what is the agenda now that the wall, DACA and ending the ACA are off the table?

It'll be interesting to see what Trump sells out for a mess of pottage at his dinner tonight with Pelosi and Schumer.  Just a quiet little affair between friends.

I'm sorry to hear this @INVAR  But Donald Trump is a "doer" not a poltician... and he's going to get his agenda through with or without you.

The President learned a valuable lesson from the Obamacare repeal disaster thanks to his Republican "team" and he is not going to forget it. And neither will Republican voters.

Rare is the CEO who gives his major players a second chance to screw up his plans.  It just doesn't happen.  They're either removed or marginalized to the hinterland. That's life---in Realsville.  ^-^

To update the old saying, when Socialism arrives, it will come under the banner of populism.

We've discussed this many times before, but as we've seen, the 'right' in the US is becoming very much like the European right in many ways. One of the biggest ways is that we are shedding liberty for collectivism. The Right in Europe in many ways support socialism under the banner of nationalism or populism. They are very close to US Democrats on many issues. Now, the Republicans (many) are very much Bill Clinton era Democrats and the Democrats are shifting even further left.

And 'our' side is letting this happen to thunderous applause.
