I think a lot of what is wrong with this nation lies in that sentiment.

A politician is first and foremost supposed to support the Constitution, then to represent the people in his geographic area. Way down the list should be his desire to get re-elected.

Our Founders would be aghast if they knew there was such a thing called career politicians in our Congress.  Even more than knowing that most politicians were lawyers.

Of course you're right. But you're wasting your time, they have no idea what you're talking about.

That could be a valid reason.  I was thinking more along being a character flaw. But then I thought Ryan was a good guy at the time. SO I am guilty too.

What you do not get is that both Ryan and McConnell were neutered by this move.

Look for the GOP members to replace both.

They should have been replaced when Trump was elected - but - Trump pushed for both of them and in turn got them... The guy who was going to clean out the swamp plugged the drain when the chance came. And most of us were disgusted... And here we are... A pox on both their houses.

I frequently defended Speaker Ryan when I was a republican.  If he had any dignity he would have stepped down already.  And the good news for Speaker Ryan is that there has never been a better time to get out. 
He's got to go.  He's not relevant.  He's not Trump.

He's not a bad guy, just a bad leader―something many of us suspected when they proposed him as the compromise Speaker candidate. He's good at proposing ideas, but not following through on them.

    All these months I've been admonished for not voting GOP so now that you Trumpers have thrown the GOP Leadership under the bus, I am relieved that I made the right decision after all. 

Never vote for a progressive Democrat ever. Always vote for the most conservative candidate in the GOP primary. I occasionally vote third party in the general if the GOP candidate sucks big time. Like McCain in 2008. We have a lot of fake Republicans to deal with, Ryan being one of them.
