Macadam is also quieter than concrete on faster streets, but for most neighborhood streets I don't think the difference is really noticeable.
The real advantage of concrete is that the pavement (if properly engineered for load) will deflect considerably less, reducing 'truck ruts' and reducing the amount of deformation from braking effects at stoplights and intersections.
