McConnell and Ryan have already demonstrated that they prefer to work with Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer to hand them what they demand, rather than working with their own Conservative caucus members.

Why should Trump be any different?  He's now doing what he has always done his whole life: helping the Democrat cause.

No surprise here.

We have single party rule in the beast now ruling us.  Only imbeciles and the willfully deceived think otherwise.

So sad watching Trump fans justify his actions in this matter.   They can't face the fact that they have been suckered and their hero isn't a hero after all.

LOL!   Is THAT what's happening, @Applewood ?

I'm tickled to death I was one of the earliest supporters of Donald Trump.   I don't regret my vote/support for a second.

Right there with ya! So many NT so desperate to toss out I told ya so...but Trump keeps blasting past them to get things done. Good things...like ending DACA, the Paris Accord, renegotiating NAFTA....not to mention an incredibly effective response to two major natural disasters. He is even blowing past the inadequacies of a GOP congress that cant unite sufficiently to end Obamacare...or pass other conservative priorities. Honestly, the man is the only thing stifling the ascent of leftism. In the country at this point. If I could go back and vote for the man again I'd do so this time with ZERO hesitation.

Like I said, "sad."

Trump is pulling back the veil.  No more pretense he is anything different from the liberal socialist Democrats.  But of course, you just won't see it.  Do you really think he is going to keep any of his promises?  Maybe he will get his wall.  After all, his ego needs a monument to his greatness.  But do you really think the invasion of illegals and alleged refugees will be halted?  No way.  Trump doesn't care about the invasion.  He has shown in the past he has had no problem with illegal workers hired for his many monuments -- the Trump hotels, for example.  But he is pretending he now cares so that you, his faithful followers, will continue to support him.  And he will build this wall on the backs of you. your children and succeeding generations.

And you can forget about his other promises such as Obamacare repeal or tax reform too.  Republicans won't do any of these.  So once again, Trump will "work with" Democrats.  There will be no repeal of Obamacare -- maybe a few cosmetic changes with a view to scrapping it altogether in favor of single payer.  And tax reform will be cosmetic too.  There will be no relief for the millions of Americans get up and go to work every day to provide for the slackers who refuse to help themselves.

I figured out a long time ago that Trump followers will abandon whatever principles they may have had to follow their faithful leader into the abyss.  They turn a blind eye to anything Trump says or does that might go against their principles because they so want to believe.  Trump is not a savior.  He is not a hero.  He is a reality show TV star who has hornswoggled you into believing he is different from the big government Democrat he always was.

Like you said @DCPatriot  Do try to keep up.

Points completely understood.

The big problem for our side is, if Trump doesn't do this, then we lose elections. I disagree with your premise about the 2020 election.

Politically, I think it's actually a smart move for Trump in 2020. However for the American people who work and pay taxes, constantly raising the debt ceiling and rampantly printing money is a train wreck waiting to happen.

@stephen50right

I'm racking my brains, trying to come up with the benefits we've seen from having Republicans in office.  I'm not coming up with anything.

Yup ... they showed up armed with the same weary "I told you so's".  I wonder if they have any idea just how boring they are.   :pondering:

I think Trump will work with anyone (and I mean anyone) who he THINKS will make him look good -- personally.  I don't think he's ideological or principled in any way.  I think he'll roll with the wind and sacrifice any and everything if he perceives it benefits him.  Look at ObamaCare:  he loved the House bill until the press was bad about it -- then he said it was "heartless".  Look at DACA -- he wanted to rescind it until the press was negative about it then he called for it's legalization.

@Concerned

Yes, exactly.  He's not a deal maker.  He's a self promoter.

Had no illusions as to Trump's Conservative pedigree.

Also, had no illusions about the suicide leap America avoided in a Hillary Clinton presidency.

So as Trump's presidency turns into the same suicide leap, you have no problem with that?

I'll say it again, my problem with the whole damn thing is that the Republicans were NOT, are NOT, will NOT be against raising the debt ceiling.

The bone of contention was for how long to raise the debt ceiling.   GOP leadership wanted 18 months, the Dems dug in their heels and would agree to only 3 months.  Since 60 votes are needed, the minority has effective veto power.   Trump decided to take the 3 months,  together with billions for the victims of Harvey.   A quick victory at a time of true crisis, with another hurricane barreling in.

The Senate's rules give the minority - especially a united minority - inordinate power.   Republican leadership is reluctant to change the rules because they take advantage of them to stymie Dem legislation when the Dems are in power.

Trump is beginning to realize the value of triangulation, of governing from the middle.   On DACA, for example,  a coalition of the center could, I think, quickly codify the program.    Same goes with tax reform, but it won't be the pro-growth reform that conservatives demand.

Our debt to GDP ratio is over 100%. We have more people than ever dependent on government for part or all of their survival.

Can anyone point out were a nation has borrowed and printed it's way into long term prosperity?

Trump, along with everyone n DC, is trapped. If they cut anything, some group will scream and howl over the cuts. This issue isn't going to be dealt with through political will but economics and math
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Still with the "we have to elect Trump so we don't get Hillary" talking point?

My goodness.  You all still don't get it.  Trump is no improvement over Hillary and might be a lot worse.  They are at the very least 2 Democrats cut from the same cloth.

Someone please explain to me how a Democrat elected as a Republican is different from any other Democrat.
