Gorky Park Attacker Claims Self-Defense

The main suspect in a deadly attack on a St. Petersburg blogger in central Moscow’s Gorky Park has claimed he was acting in self-defense when he knocked his victim to the ground late on Aug. 13.

Kornei Makarov, the son of television actor Sergei Makarov, told the “Pust Govoryat” talk show that the conflict began when one of his acquaintances engaged in a “verbal altercation” with someone from the victim’s group.

This article of very broken poor English makes me think this altercation was not about sexual orientation or things like that. Looks kind of like hooliganism or gangs to me.

All due respect to the deceased; I found some pictures, one of the pictures actually adds to the intrigue, I couldn't pass this up.  I believe it is him without being able to read this.

Stanislav Dumkin.  The articles say he was a blogger; he doesn't sound like a dissident. What is curious here, is the accused is suppose to be the son of a famous actor over there. The article which I google translated said the accused is thought to be mild mannered. But it apparently is on CCTV. It did not sound like Dumkin was current military.

Novaya Gazetta is suppose to be considered pretty good and has run afoul of Russian authorities in the past per freedom of the press.

Sounds like Dumkin was killed by an act of thuggery; per the above link. Russia has the death penalty but there appears to be a moratorium of it being used.
