The latest research not only shows that sugar is addictive, but that it is behind the global epidemic of diabetes and heart disease. It also causes cancer, obesity, violent behavior, and hyperactivity in children.

For years there existed a consensus among medical and nutritional experts that saturated fat was the culprit behind obesity and heart disease, and that we should take in the lion’s share of our daily calories in the form of carbohydrates. The “low fat, high carb diet” was the recommended diet beginning in the 1970s.

I read the famous book "Sugar Blues", a lot of truth in all of this though, I can't cut out sugar totally. I think it is in "Sugar Blues" where the author mentions that some folks that have gone totally sugar free for a good period of time, maybe 2 years or more, won't even sunburn.
