[...]New photographs reveal shiny new Oval Office and Roosevelt Room after $3.4m renovations are completed on the White House
Daily Mail/UK, Aug 23, 2017

New photos show the renovation of the White House is almost complete after two weeks

The Oval Office has new wallpaper and the Roosevelt Room and West Wing lobby new carpeting

The South Portico steps have also been renovated for the first time in more than 60 years

And much work was done to replace the White House's HVAC system, which was installed 27 years ago

Because it has run constantly since then, it had had the equivalent of 81 years of regular usage

There were also IT upgrades and general paint jobs - the latter of which continued Tuesday

Trump reportedly called the White House 'a real dump' to golfers at his New Jersey course this summer

However, he has strongly denied those claims after they emerged in the press

As seen in these photos, the exterior of the building, along with the Oval Office, Roosevelt Room and other areas of the West Wing have been given an overhaul.

But the real work went on beneath the building's floors and in its walls, as the ailing HVAC system was replaced, the heating system upgraded and IT infrastructure given a boost.

Despite the considerable work performed on the building, however, it's now a shining white as ever - and ready for the president to get back behind the Resolute Desk.

New wallpaper is seen covering the walls of the Oval Office - one of the aesthetic changes to the largely practical changes that have been made

Concerns that everything would be covered in 24kt gold leaf can be laid to rest. Looks like a nice renovation.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
Nice article, but did you happen to notice that the Daily Mail made sure to capitalize The Resolute Desk, a gift from Queen Victoria, but  President and the Presidential Seal are always in lower case? I find it offensive, I don't care who the President is the Office should be treated with the respect it deserves.

Must hide this page from Mrs. Navycando. Don't need her to get more inspiration to cover another room in wallpaper. I'm sitting in what I wanted to be a Tuscany Den but starring at Paisley and Harlequin wallpaper.

I hope they fully fumigated the place to get the Obama stink out before they did that!

They worked on the HVAC, likely moved the 'bugs' into the ductwork. The makeover is an improvement, imho.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Love the wallpaper, but I still kind of hate the gold curtains.

I'm hoping they got rid of that ugly gold curtain Obama would stand in front of during some of his press conferences.  I don't know if that was part of this refurbishment, but every time I saw a shot of Obama standing in front of that hideous thing, I wanted to hurl.

Anyway, from the photos it looks like they did an exemplary job with the refurbishments.

Love the wallpaper, but I still kind of hate the gold curtains.

Either white or dark blue that matches the blue of the presidential seal would be my choice.

Looks classy. Although there are a lot of jokes about making it look like a tacky casino with gold everywhere, the reality is the White House Historical Association has most of the say over all of this and no matter what a President may want (not saying the gold leaf on everything was an actual request), they give them a very limited range of options in keeping with the historical nature of the building.

One would have hoped they reduced the number of FDR and increased the number of TR paintings and statues in the Roosevelt Room, but those may be consistent based on standards.

Another waste of taxpayer money.

The HVAC replacement will most likely save taxpayer money in the long run, and probably reap benefit shortly. The system was very old and most likely highly inefficient.

I think that, and a few structural issues were what kicked this off, everything else (the stuff we can see) were just accoutrement that would have been needed to clean up and repair after those other issues were completed anyway.
