Maryland officials remove statue of Dred Scott justice overnight

Maryland officials removed a controversial statue in Annapolis overnight Friday following the violent clashes over removing Confederate monuments in Charlottesville, Va.

Workers began removing the statue of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Taney, who ruled in favor of slaveholders in the infamous Dred Scott case, at about 12:20 a.m. Friday, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The decision comes after Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) called for the statue to be removed days ago.

Before you know it, there won't be a statue erected or a city or school named after a Democrat any more.

PS  Judge's first name was Roger, not Robert.

And there's this:

"A hard necessity indeed," Taney told jurymen, "compels us to endure the evil of slavery for a time. . . . It cannot be easily or suddenly removed. Rush actually admitted today that another civil war may be already starting.  I was stunned when he said it.  He alluded to the "from within" thing I've been saying re: enemy within.

I honestly fear there could be some hothead who comes out of the woodwork and does something stupid. It's clear from reading various articles, a lot of people are fed up but let's hope it doesn't go any farther.
