Justice Department wants information on people who visited anti-Trump website
by Kelly Cohen | Aug 14, 2017, 11:52 PM

The Department of Justice has requested the information of more than 1 million visitors to an anti-Trump website, according to the Los Angeles-based web hosting provider.

DreamHost said in blog post Monday it had been working with the Justice Department and was fighting the "unfocused" and "unlawful" request.

"The request from the [Justice Department] demands that DreamHost hand over 1.3 million visitor IP addresses — in addition to contact information, email content, and photos of thousands of people — in an effort to determine who simply visited the website. That information could be used to identify any individuals who used this site to exercise and express political speech protected under the Constitution's First Amendment. That should be enough to set alarm bells off in anyone's mind," DreamHost said in Monday's post. The italics used in the statement were used by DreamHost.

What would they even need this, with all the backdoors the NSA has.    They just go upstream to next level internet provider and get the information.

No, the request is the message and a chilling one.

When I read the headline, I thought they meant The Briefing Room.

But after reading it, put me on record.  I do not believe this unless they have evidence of someone planning a terrorist attack.

This why I think that Sessions should have been fired. Not because of the Russia thing.

Unless there's more to this story, not good. Best leave the police state tactics to the professionals.

As a reminder Emjay, before you continue to attack this site, that before the election you opposed Trump and said many of the same things you now ridicule and complain about.

This (which is new), subverting State's authority on issues that the Federal Government has no Constitutional authority over, and expanding Civil Asset Forfeiture which is a clear violation of the Constitution is just a start.

Hello!  I know you aren't familiar with the concept but that was supposed to be a joke.

I never attack this site and you cannot find anything to support the accusation that I've ever done so.

And you don't need to remind me of how I felt about Trump and the things I said.  I'm a proud refugee from TOS who still bears scars of how I was treated there.

Things became different for me once Trump was elected.  Please don't assume that I don't know the kind of guy Trump is, but, although it's a scorned concept here, he IS better than Hillary in every way.

All I've ever done in defense of Trump is ask that he not be treated unfairly and only condemned for what he actually does.

And yeah, you were very obviously joking. Beat me too it as well, dammit.

This is so outrageous I actually had to click on the link to see if it is true.  It looks like it may be and the last line of the story is ominous.

"The U.S. Attorney's office in D.C. could not be immediately reached for comment."

They'd better be reached for comment and have a dang good explanation.

We need a return to federalism. Here in Michigan we've been raising the bar on CAF but that has little impact on the feds. However the state hasn't been charging certain regulatory "crimes" where there is no reasonable reason to believe a citizen would know something was illegal. (Mens Rea) If the state doesn't charge, the feds are never alerted.

As long as they don't mess with the IP addresses and user info who visit the Porno Sites... this will go unnoticed by the masses.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.
