As it should be.  Sleep tight my friends.   Without a Nuclear Care in the World!

The question at this point is not whether President Donald Trump is prepared to bring the world to the brink of nuclear war – "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!" (sic) he Tweeted on Friday morning, after threatening "fire and fury" on Tuesday. Rather, the question is whether, as long as it doesn't reach our shores, most Americans (or most of Trump's base, at least) will care.

Even though world financial markets continue to slide as the head of the U.S. government seems to find it impossible to ratchet down tensions (or use his space bar), around half of Americans, according to polls conducted just prior to the president's statements, seemingly support some sort of military action against North Korea. Americans by and large view North Korea as a threat and, even prior to the escalation of the last week, which included threats by North Korea to detonate a nuclear weapon near the U.S. territory in Guam, supported military action against North Korea if it attacked South Korea.

Americans will be highly bothered when they can't buy their next Samsung TV or smartphone... or buy their next Kia or Hyundai, though.

What people realize is that geography really does mean something.

Should we be worried compare to South Korea or Japan?

Anything that happens will definitely affect them, maybe the US, unlikely the mainland US.

Kim is in the process of rearming Japan, which should scare the Chinese greatly./

Only the sissies, crybabies, scaredy-cats, snowflakes, social justice warriors, liberals posing as conservatives and the like.

Real conservatives know that Reagan doctrine calls for negotiating from a position of strength.

What strength will be left after Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Venezuela, and North Korea?

Fighting a two front war is suicidal... and fighting a five-front one, even moreso.

Honest Conservatives know that we don't have the strength to make any kind of threat against anyone right now and have them believe it.

@HonestJohn

Obama abandoned the ability for us to fight a two front war and handle another regional conflict very early on in his administration.

Then he went about ensuring we could barely meet our obligations we were already committed to.

We are in no shape to saber rattle right now until the day that Trump actually starts expanding the military like hes proposed.

Is knowing military strength and readiness, part of an enlisted radio guy MOS?

Do you favor backing down, giving in to those who threaten us?

To be completely honest, it was Clinton that took us off the ability to fight two major, simultaneous wars... to a 'fight and win one war, defend in another theater'.

And we've degraded since then.  Especially after the GWOT and the subsequent sequestration.  (Or in other words, our forces were 'rode hard and put away wet'.)

I wouldn't know.  I'm not a RTO or anything involved with Signal.

If you're going to make a threat...you should have the weapons to back it up.

We don't have the muscle to back up Trump's big mouth proclamations right now.  He should follow the speak softly and carry a big stick philosophy of Teddy R.

There is a difference between negotiating from a position of strength and shooting your stupid mouth off  unnecessarily.  The latter just makes you look weak.  Reference Trumps recent threats against Venezuela.  Maybe our enemies will laugh themselves to death.

I agree. It's like dealing with kids. If you don't back it up..the kid will take over.

It worries me that we are dealing with a maniac that might well call his bluff.  And then what?

The "then what" is we have to provide rescue and recovery efforts where ever the missiles land and hope that while the UN and Liberals in the US throw every roadblock they can in front of the President to prevent him from striking back...he uses that time to rapidly expand our forces to be able to strike back in a way that ensures the Norks won't ever be able to do it again.

We can hope for that.  The Trump Doctrine seems to be to go off half-cocked, so I'm not extremely hopeful for a sane response.

The Trump Doctrine apparently starts off with a nasty tweet.
