Top U.S. general says no changes yet to transgender policy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford, said in a written message on Thursday to military leaders that there has been no change yet to the military's policy on transgender personnel, despite plans for a ban announced by President Donald Trump.


"There will be no modifications to the current policy until the President's direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance," Dunford, said in the written message to service chiefs, commanders and senior enlisted leaders, first reported by Reuters.

I have to agree. It is fun to troll the MSM because they're so easy. They are all on such a hair-trigger to jump Trump, all he has to do is to say some ridiculous thing on Twitter and they all lose their minds.

It's becoming pretty clear that Trump made this announcement on a whim.  Mattis was on vacay, there's no formal policy for anyone to even know how to proceed.  This is just more Trump campaigning nonsense.

And because of that, it will most likely be summarily reversed in the courts, the same way his immigration bans were reversed.  And all at the long term cost of a weakened presidential office.  Future presidents for a long time will be paying the price for Trumps stupidities.

Could you kindly provide the legal basis, whereby courts run the whole show, and not the President?

There was/is a VERY SPECIFIC law, passed by Congress, giving the President the sole power, for immigration/entry.

I am not aware there is any legal basis for any court to block this measure. This was national defense policy just a coule of years ago, before Obama decided to make it a democrat party platform to make Bradley Manning a cause for democrats.

Actually I believe the policy, if correctly written and implemented, is the right direction. This is why it is frustrating to see the writing on the wall it is nothing more than a Trump tweak and not real policy. Treating it like a game sabotages its future chances.

All it would take is a couple paragraph memo from Trump to Mattis informing him that DoD Policy #XXX-XXXXX-X dated (insert date) entitled "Transgender Integration Into the Armed Forces of The U.S." is herby officially rescinded and the previous policy on transgenders and their ability to serve openly in the military is hereby reinstated.  And then sign the damn thing.


It's really that easy.  Then Mattis and Dunford and all the Service Chiefs would have no choice but to make it so and they wouldn't be able to run to the Washington Post crying about how they aren't going to implement it yet.

Nah, I don't watch TV so I have no idea what is "going on". I have no idea if the tweets are legit or not. I just watch the spectacle.

Here's what is important. North Korea has nuclear warheads, they have a delivery system that can reach us and they have announced their willingness to use it on us preemptively. Trump drunkenly tweeting schick about transgenders doesn't rate a listen in my world.
