House panel heeds Trump plea, agrees to probe Comey, Clinton emails
McClatchy DC Bureau, Jul 26, 2017

WASHINGTON  —  House Judiciary Committee Republicans Wednesday heeded President Donald Trump’s relentless calls for more investigations into Hillary Clinton, agreeing to seek documents relating to the FBI probe of her private email server.

"If it's in the public interest to investigate the Trump administration, it is most certainly in the public interest to investigate the real crimes by the real criminals," said Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., a committee member.

Trump has been prodding Attorney General Jeff Sessions via Twitter to revive an inquiry into the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee who lost the election to Trump. Clinton’s use of the private email server as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013 was investigated for months by the FBI.

Lawmakers had been resisting reopening inquiries into Clinton and Democrats’ conduct during the campaign. But judiciary committee Republicans seized an opportunity Wednesday after Democrats tried to win approval for a probe of Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey in May.

Republicans surprised them by turning the tables and pushing through a plan to learn more about the FBI investigation, notably why former President Bill Clinton was meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on a Phoenix tarmac as her department was probing Hillary Clinton.

"Just because Hillary Clinton lost the election doesn't mean we should forget or forgive conduct that is likely criminal," Gaetz said. "We need an investigation of Tarmac-Gate.”

House Judiciary Committee Officially Approves Effort to Launch Investigation of Comey, Lynch
Breitbart, Jul 26, 2017

The new investigative effort, authorized by the passage of the amendment in the Judiciary Committee, 16-13 along partisan lines, digs deep requesting documents and information related to Comey’s leaks of conversations he had with President Donald Trump before Trump fired him. According to the Washington Post, Democrats on the committee were infuriated Republicans pressed forward with the probe.

“This is the most astonishing moment I’ve ever experienced in the Judiciary Committee,” one Democrat, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), said. “To take a question about the firing of James B. Comey and turn it into a question about Hillary Clinton? The chairman has left the room. Justice has left this room. Common sense has left this room. A lot of stuff has left this room, and maybe never entered it.”

The amendment was offered by Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Mike Johnson (R-LA). It passed Wednesday evening, authorizing the opening of the Judiciary Committee probe. It remains to be seen if subjects of the investigation will cooperate, and if they do not cooperate it remains to be seen if the Committee will use its broad subpoena power to compel document production and testimony.

It also remains to be seen if House Speaker Paul Ryan will support the probe, or intervene and use his power to block it. Ryan’s spokesman has not responded to Breitbart News’s requests for comment on this matter.

I get the impression that Trump has had to place his foot in the rear-ends of both Sessions and GOP committees.

The same old game has been to talk, talk, then do nothing. Go along, to get along.

Like healthcare. But Trump seems intent on "keeping them honest."

Why the long delay in going after the Paki bros.? Was Sessions going to let them slip away?

Meh...They'll do just enough to make it look like they're doing something, but nothing will get done.   It's the GOP Way.

How about the happiness that tough talking, former prosecutor Trey Gowdy was going to replace Darrel Issa?

Now they were going to really settle down and get it done.

But alas, Gowdy proved to be just another tough talker. No results. Nada. Zip.

Mark Levin said Gowdy was worthless, btw.

I believe that President trump sensed the same game with AG Sessions. Slow, slow, slower. No results. Let the Pakis slip out of the country.

He's too busy stuffing both feet down his own mouth to do anything like that.
