My experience with my exwife made me staunchly pro gay marriage. Those poor guys have no idea what they are getting into with that. I say, let'um suffer like the rest of us. BTW, that was not a joke. If the gays want to get the government, and lawyers, and courts, and police, and the sheriff, involved in their life and relationships, go for it. Do it! I wouldn't attend one of their 'weddings', but just on general purposes, I say go for it! See what you get.

 Most of us who claim to be conservative utterly reject racism and identity politics, and understand that the United States, for better or worse, has assumed the mantle of military and economic leadership in the free world.   Other NTs are put off by Trump's style -  his impulsiveness, his superficiality, his impatience, his demands for loyalty without reciprocity.

But most of us who were NeverTrump before the election are perfectly willing to give Trump a chance to govern, and oppose the nihilists who seek to overturn the results of a free and fair election.

I am curious how and when this will be implemented, though.  @RoosGirl asked a very good question a couple of pages upstream: What happens to the transgender individuals currently serving?  Are they discharged immediately ... phased out ... what?  Are they eligible for veterans' benefits?

It seems there is quite a bit more to be hashed out, policy-wise, but it is great to see the ship correcting course.

Multiple Republican senators broke with President Trump on Wednesday after he announced on Twitter than transgender troops would be banned from serving in the military.

In separate statements, GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Joni Ernst (Iowa), Richard Shelby (Ala.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah) all criticized Trump for his decision that Obama-era rules allowing transgender troops to serve would be reversed.

McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, ripped the call and said that Trump shouldn't be making policy announcements via tweet.

“The President’s tweet this morning regarding transgender Americans in the military is yet another example of why major policy announcements should not be made via Twitter," McCain wrote in his statement.

“The statement was unclear," he added. "The Department of Defense has already decided to allow currently-serving transgender individuals to stay in the military, and many are serving honorably today. Any American who meets current medical and readiness standards should be allowed to continue serving."

"There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train, and deploy to leave the military — regardless of their gender identity."

Hatch concurred, asking Trump for more "clarity" on the policy.

"I don't think we should be discriminating against anyone," Hatch wrote. "Transgender people are people, and deserve the best we can do for them. I look forward to getting much more information and clarity from our military leaders about the policy the president tweeted today."

Speaking on CNN, Shelby was more apprehensive about directly contradicting the president, but praised current military policy allowing transgender troops as "a big tent for people who want to serve."

"That would be a reversal of the current policy," Shelby said on CNN. "The current policy is a big tent for people who want to serve. You've got to remember, our military force is a voluntary force. I'll have to see what he actually said, read his tweet and go from there from current policy."

"You ought to treat everybody fairly and give everybody a chance to serve," he added.

A spokeswoman for Ernst told The Des Moines Register that the Iowa Republican, who is a veteran, would oppose the ban.

Totally agree inasmuch as major policy decisions should not be announced via twitter.  Trump is such a disaster.

The only thing on that list that Trump has done differently so far than Hillary is taking steps towards letting the Military refocus and train for its primary mission...a.k.a. rebuilding the military.

Other than that they are two sides of the same coin.

And as I look around...most of the people you would falsely label as NT are enthusiastically cheering his decision to bar trans genders from service.

To be absolutely fair, Trump has managed to do a few thing just by being President.  Border crossings have decreased dramatically.  The stock market has gone up.  Business is more optimistic.  I forget the rest but some of the things that HAVE NOT been done are due to Congressional opposition and laziness.
