A Florida mayoral candidate’s racist tirade has gone viral after he told a group of activists to “go back to Africa” during a mayoral forum Tuesday.

Long-shot St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Paul Congemi made the comments while addressing rival Jesse Nevel, a white supporter of the socialist Uhuru Movement, which seeks slavery reparations for African-Americans.

“Mr. Nevel, you and your people, you talk about reparations,” Mr. Congemi said, according to video of the outburst. “The reparations that you talk about, Mr. Nevel, your people already got your reparations. Your reparations came in the form of a man named Barack Obama.”

The comment elicited outrage from the audience, with one woman screaming, “Get out of here!”

I didn't see a racial component to this, except by those believing we need to pay a particular race something they do not deserve.

I don't think it works that way there. bleep can call himself Republican but I don't think they run on party lines. And this isn't the election but the primary, whatever that means there.

Whenever the term "reparations" is mentioned in this forum, there are the usual snorts or derision. And they are aptly so.

A guy running for office speaks utters outloud a similar comment regarding "reparations", and we're going to criticize him for saying publicly what many whites believe privately?

Sounds like a double-standard to me.

I'd vote for this guy, whether you like it or not.

Your vote is based on what?  Given that reparations have absolutely nothing to do with how St. Petersburg will be governed, I think voting on this basis is ridiculous.
