Russia, China call on North Korea to stop weapons tests: report
By Max Greenwood - 07/04/17 12:22 PM EDT Russia and China are calling on North Korea to halt its nuclear and missile tests and for South Korea and the U.S. to put a hold on large-scale military exercises, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.
The proposal came hours after North Korea claimed that it had successfully tested for the first time an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), signaling a milestone in its efforts to gain the ability to strike the mainland U.S.
In a joint statement from the Russian and Chinese foreign ministries on Tuesday, the countries said that a halt to Pyongyang's weapons tests and Washington and Seoul's military exercises could lay a foundation for the countries to meet for talks, according to the AP.
Shortly after North Korea's latest missile test, President Trump suggested on Twitter that "perhaps China will put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all."
