The Air Force is already upgrading the historic, 1960s-era bomber with new radios, avionics and weapons capability
The Air Force is surging forward with a massive, fleet-wide modernization overhaul of the battle-tested, Vietnam-era B-52 bomber, giving it new radar, weapons and possibly a new engine, service leaders said.
The workhorse for the U.S. military, dating back to the 1960s, is being outfitted with a modern Active Electronically Scanned Array, or AESA, technology to bring the airplane modern, high-tech threat detection technology, Lt. Gen. Arnold Bunch, Military Deputy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, told Scout Warrior in an interview.
