BY ELLIOT SMILOWITZ AND JOHN BOWDEN

Cable news host Greta Van Susteren is leaving MSNBC nearly six months after joining the network.

“I am out at MSNBC,” Van Susteren tweeted Thursday afternoon.

In a memo to employees, MSNBC President Phil Griffin called Van Susteren "a well-regarded television veteran and one of only a few broadcasters who can say they’ve hosted shows at all three major cable news networks."

"We are grateful to her and wish her the best," he said.

Vanity Fair first reported that Van Susteren is leaving her daily 6 p.m. show as of Thursday, and she will be permanently replaced by Ari Melber. He will take over the 6 p.m. slot next month.

Griffin noted that Melber, MSNBC’s chief legal correspondent and host of the “The Point” on weekends, has previously filled in for the channel's prime-time hosts.

Van Susteren's show struggled to gain traction in ratings, Vanity Fair reported. Despite the recent success of other MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell, Van Susteren's show fell behind concurrent shows on Fox News and CNN during its time slot.

No advertising for her show and now they are not advertising for Megyn Kelly either.

The question I have is.... will Greta be able to get the leftie stench off now that she's "out"?  Where is the 'real' conservative or right-leaning network to replace Fox Neuz?  Come on, people.  Leftism was temporarily, at least, defeated last November.  Why the hell isn't there a major tv venue for us righties now???

I vividly recall the FOX promo when Greta was #1 in her time slot.

The video showed Washington's movers and shakers in one-on-on interviews or on set in a rather serious tone...and the voice over said, that Washington's power brokers go out of their way to accommodate Greta Van Sustern because while she asks tough questions, she's known as impeccably honest and fair.

@driftdiver

I don't think so. She just tweeted "I don't know what I am going to do". She was let go, didn't leave to work for trump.

I'd like to see her come back to Fox. She can have Hannity's time slot. Hannity can go work for Trump as an official throne sniffer.

It makes you wonder why NBC even hired them in the first place. Hugh Hewitt got buried in a graveyard slot too. Now Greta basically gets fired after only a few months.

Perhaps it was all a publicity stunt.

Supposedly she wasn't confrontational enough with her guests either.

But then that has never been her style.

IMHO I bet she ends up at OANN.

Smart lady.

FOX made her a much better reporter. Went from someone who mainy covered scadals and tragedies involving the famous and the beautiful, (OJ, Elisabeth Smarts, etc.) , to a solid investigative reporter on politics. She became noticibly more conservative as well.

That's what I liked about Greta.  She always managed to make her points without all the yelling, screaming, arm-waving, and talking over people.

All articles I have read on the subject agree that Megyn Kelly will be gone as well, within a couple of months.

Her ratings are abysmal and she has made many more enemies than friends at her new job.

I hear that she became disgruntled and quit when she learned that she was the only chick at FOX who wasn't being sexually harassed.
